Anyway you slice it, it -can not- be more than 14,000 ft. And that is to Parthunaax. High Hrothgar couldn't be more than 11,000 feet or so, due to air thinning. 14k is about the maximum an unprotected human can survive in, and even then, unless you acclimated yourself, you would be very dizzy, prone to sleep, and not all there. Little things like breathing get in the way. And unless the dragons use magic to fly, 30,000 is far too high up for something that big to actually flap its way off the ground. Fall off the pinnacle in a controlled manner until it reached thicker air, sure. But a vto at 30,000ft? Not likely, unless the dragons weigh a fraction of what is implied by the booming landings.

1000-1200 feet, but it feels smaller.

If calculated based on 7000 steps, it would only be around 140 meters.

Some of the steps are covered in snow... anyways the first climb was underwhelming to say the least. I expected much higher.

I think some of you seriously under estimate how tall Mt.Everest is..

Seriously wtf?

Okay, so if there were 7,000 steps @ 8" each (very common number in modern construction), that would be 4,667'. But usrevenge is saying that the real number is about 1/10 of that, which would be just 467'. These numbers are from Iverstead. How high is Iverstead? Well, you have one big waterfall down to the Whiterun elevation and another big one down to the Windhelm elevation at sea level. So High Hrothgar itself might be at around 1,000' feet or 305 meters above sea level.

Then it's just a hill, not a mountain.

Bunch of posts putting it around 1000' or so. If you assume the distance is contracted the same as the time, i.e. 30 : 1, then very much on a par with Everest.

How quickly we go up mountains in the game is not a good way to judge their size. When we climb we don't slow down as we would in real life. In real life you are gasping for breath and there's no way you'd be sprinting full speed for extended periods of time. We are moving extremely fast in the game most of the time so everything seems compressed. However if we had to move at a realistic speed all the time people would hate the game because it would take forever to get anywhere. TotW is very large but we move up it so quickly it seems much smaller than it really is. Still it's nowhere near the size of Everest in relation to sea level. The people saying that really have no concept as to how high those massive mountains really are.

I'm trying to judge it by line of sight(in game) and it looks to be well over a 1000ft, and some may jest that's just a hill but have you really been a 1000ft up? Most would become weak kneed at about 100ft up.

It depends. In the game or in lore? In lore the Throat of the World has 7,000 steps, but in the game it only has about 700. I guess multiply it by 10 for the lore height.

I guess you could say that the physical proportions of the world have been scaled the way time has. It's a video game, after all. You have to suspend your disbelief in order to enjoy it.

I live at about 5,000' so, yeah. Around here a 45 minute care ride in any direction would take you up or down 1500+ feet.

Everest doesn't have finely-chiseled steps for people to climb upon...

Anyway, I estimate the TotW to be, taking into account the 7000 steps being approx. 5 inches tall, with around 100 or so leading downward and around 500 feet of no-stairs slope: roughly 3000-3500 feet tall. Give or take a few hundred.

This is taken to scale the down-sized scale of Skyrim. If it (Skyrim the game) was in the same style as Daggerfall with 2 weeks required to cross the map, I'd imagine it would be 20,000+ feet tall (~6500 meters)

This is my estimate from the bottom to High Hrothgar. I'd give it another 50% increase in height if the sloping to Parthuurnax is included

That's not the same as looking straight down 1500+ft, when I hiked Gros Morne here home it really put it into prospective, while going up it didn't seem really all that bad until I got to the top and looked down a cliff face of 2000+ft. Which is what your doing on the Throat of the world, looking pretty much straight down and by line of sight it looks to be 1000+ft(in game) to me.

Ok for a little bit of perspective for those saying that ToTW is about 1000ft above sea level...this statue is 2300ft above sea level on mt Corovado. http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=A2KJkIZCZYtPSiAAYSuJzbkF;_ylu=X3oDMTBlMTQ4cGxyBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1n?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3F_adv_prop%3Dimage%26va%3Dchrist%2Bstatue%2Brio%26fr%3Datt-portal-s%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D26&w=400&h=267&imgurl=www.turnbacktogod.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2008%2F07%2Fjesus-christ-largest-statue-0410.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.turnbacktogod.com%2Fstatue-of-jesus-christ-in-rio-de-janeiro-brazil%2F&size=27.3+KB&name=Statue+of+Jesus+Christ+in+Rio+de+Janeiro%2C+Brazil&p=christ+statue+rio&oid=ed2cc218566b448c11a589f1f1d4fc06&fr2=&fr=att-portal-s&tt=Statue%2Bof%2BJesus%2BChrist%2Bin%2BRio%2Bde%2BJaneiro%252C%2BBrazil&b=0&ni=72&no=26&tab=organic&ts=&sigr=12d33dhqc&sigb=13j2sj6qb&sigi=12l18jq45&.crumb=BOg1J2ru2J5 I'm sorry but I don't think that ToTW is 1/2 the height of the peak of this mt, which is where the statue is. ( I hope I didn't offend anyone with the subject of the statue, but it is the best example I could think of)

So if I get your meaning, you are saying that TotW is much lower than 1000 ft.? Like maybe... 500ft?

side note: How could anyone be offended by your link? That statue is a beautiful work of art. I would love to visit it someday.

In-game, it's probably around 3000 ft or so. But, like how most settlements in the game are shrunk down for gameplay's sake, it's probably closer to 20000-25000 ft.

No I was saying that I don't think that ToTW is half the height of the peak of the mt that, that statue sit's on. IMO it's closer to 15,000 ft high or more. So many ppl are saying it's( ToTW) around 1000 ft which is less than 1/2 the height of where the statue sit's.

Some ppl take offense at the oddest thing's, I think it's a beautiful statue. If you ever get the chance do go...it's well worth it. Sunrise or sun set is spectacular.
