How do I uninstall Skyrim?

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 11:09 am

The title says it all.

I can't find Skyrim in the uninstallation list at "Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features"; I can only find Steam there.
I want the game deleted from my harddrive, in order to then reinstall the game, and see if a problem gets fixed by doing this. I have Skyrim on disc, but I installed it through Steam.

Open Steam, go to Library, right-click on Skyrim, 'Delete local content'.
Voila!

Steam based games (non Valve ones) are located in
\Steam\steamapps\common\

To uninstall the game, simply load Steam (client) and click on your Library. Right-click on the game, and select: Delete Local Content. This will remove the game from the previously mentioned directory. To reinstall simply click on the Skyrim icon in the Steam Library and select Install. You may also use a Skyrim Install Disc.

Thanks a lot!

So when I reinstall the game, I don't have to worry about it loading or anything like that right (which you had to the first time you installed Skyrim; I had to wait like 6 hours)?

Place the DVD in the drive and run the setup.exe file --- it will bring up the options which will include uninstall !

When reinstalling be sure you make STEAM install from the DVD drive and not redownload the entire thing from Steam's servers -- there is a sticky thread with directions on getting it to use the DVD instead of downloading the files.

Thanks too :)

Quick (and perhaps dumb) side-question: do I need the DVD in the drive all the time when playing the game? I've had it so far, but don't know if it works without it.

I don't follow. The entire Install is about 5740MB (~5.6GB) even with the Install disc you have between 400 and 500MB to download in patches and security protocol. If you download it directly from Steam, then download the entire 5.6GB will take a while (10.8 hours on my currently slow Internet source).

As stated earlier, the disc is only a install medium. It serves no other purpose. Once installed the game is identical to the digital download version and no disc is needed to play the game.

What I meant is that the first time I installed Skyrim on 11/11/11 with my disc, I also had to preload the game or something which took like 6 hours for me. Do I have to do that again now?

Nope once installed the DVD is never used again (unless reinstalling ! ) and even if reinstalling you can get the files off of steam if you do not have the DVD

And if you think you may want to reinstall later, just get Steam to make a backup of the game, and stick the backup on a DVD or external storage. You can use that backup to install the game with all patches up to that date.

if you didn't have Steam prior to Skyrim it may have been because it might have installed a very early version of the Steam client & took all that time updating it.

No -- chances are the preload actually downloaded the files from Steams server since the game had not launched yet -- If you try to install from the DVD unless you specifically set Steam to use the DVD files it will automatically do the download from their server ignoring the DVD files completely !

be that as it may, I was only mentioning a possibility based on my personal experience with steam(works).
