I can not figure out how to use the carriage (or is it broken?) on my PC version.

I pay the man for the location I wish to go to, and enter the back using the activate-button, but the carriage just stand still and the man keep saying he can not wait here forever.
Am I supposed to do something after I enter the carriage?

Is there anyone with the PC version that have successfully used a carriage?
