A lot smoother then K/M according to most people (due to the UI is created for the controller)

Apparently it's the best option to use right now.

First, the game runs at 60+ FPS, this means tighter, more responsive controls than even on console. That's right, the PC has better gamepad controls than the console, ironies of ironies!

Secondly, the mouse and keyboard interface is borked. They didn't even bother optimizing the UI for M&K. It's the same exact UI than for the gamepad AND much of it does not respond to mouse commands, only keyboard navigation, a la 1990's dos games.

Terrible.

This is a console port, the pc version is designed for the xbox controller. the keyboard and mouse however work as though you are trying to force the game to use peripherals that are foreign to it.

Controller it is then I guess, at least for the time being. Lucky I have one, knew it would come in handy.

I've always liked K&M much more, but after hearing all of the complaints about the UI I think I'll just use the controller. Apparently even the hotkeys are difficult on K&M, which is one of the primary advantages over an xbox controller

You can't even click on options to select them! You can't move sliders with your mouse!

All keyboard driven.

Bloody hell, what were they thinking? Controller it is, even if it takes some getting used to.

*phew* Glad I got a controller for my PC, that needs some serious modding though, unless the developers plan on fixing that for us.

Gamepad is ok for these types of games, BUT:

The one thing that bugs me the most is the turret-like/tank-like movement fo the camera with a stick. It's incredibly annoying.

This is a [censored] disgrace. I absolutely HATE having to use controllers in games like this, but if that's what I have to do to get a working UI, that's what I have to do. Good thing I have an xbox controller.

I seriously hope this can be fixed with mods. :glare:

I planned to play with a 360 pad anyway so no big deal for me.

Really surprised they dropped the ball on the PC controls though. This seems like the sort of thing Bethesda wouldn't do. Really reeks of "console-itis".

I'm using a Logitech gamepad (PS2-esque layout) and it made the game infinitely more enjoyable. It's worth buying the F310 or something else cheap and then installing a 360 controller emulator to play this game on the PC, IMO. That or wait for a UI overhaul mod.

Pro-tip to those of you that have anything but a xbox controller:

Download, configure and copy all the files to your skyrim directory with the .exe

Tips for those with a xbox controller, most xbox controllers are wireless and unless you have a wireless adapter for your computer they wont work easily on your pc. That wire you see on your xbox controller is there just for charging when you turn it on if your xbox is in range it will turn your xbox on and be synced with that. You can get non-wireless controllers for standard controller costs, or get a wireless adapter for around $20. I prefer the wired controller option because my xbox is in the same room and it seems to want to sync to that even with a wireless adapter on my pc.

I'll just use k&m, the UI can't be worse than Ob right - which didn't really bother me =P

Oh, and mods will likely fix it.

False. But it's okay, the modders will fix it.

Don't know what kind of mouse others are using, but I have no problem using the mouse wheel to scroll through menus, using the mouse to scroll down, etc. It's not a great PC interface, to be sure, but some of the functionality complaints here don't match my experience.

To each his own. I think a character moving his head at 55,000 miles per hour is incredibly annoying, ala mouse.

EDIT: I've just finished reading the other posts on this thread and I have something to say. Stop saying "360 pad". It's a freaking Xbox 360 controller. Gamepad is fine, but it's not a 360 pad.

I have the Xbox 360 controller for the PC.

And since I've used the Xbox 360 for Oblivion im much more familiar with that.

So using the controller with the PC works wonders for me with Skyrim.
