How were the character's hands made and animated?

Were these made off of someone's real hands or did they create these manually? Your character's fists look kind of odd and not what real clenched fists would look like. It's just an OCD thing but still I'd like to know

They were probably exaggerated for aesthetics purposes. I have modeled hands for first person games, and what I can tell you from experience is, if you model them with realistic, 1:1 real-life proportions, they tend to look weak, thin and unattractive. I found that either distorting the proportions a little, exaggerating them, and playing around with the distance how far the hand mesh is placed in relation to the camera, makes them look more appealing. It's an art decision really. This art practice goes way back to the 90's with games like Doom. Have a look at the first person hand sprites in Doom; there's no way it would look like that realistically.

(Doom goes a step further and distorts the perspective of the guns as well)

This is true of statues as well - sculptors more often than not carved hands to be larger because they don't look right as life size.
It's also one of the reasons why many cartoon characters don't have 5 digits.

It goes farther back than that. Look at the hands on a sculpture by Michelangelo - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c1/Moses_San_Pietro_in_Vincoli.jpg, for instance. Those hands are grotesquely proportioned. Michelangelo most likely made Moses' hands large for the same reason modelers made hands large in Doom. To create a feeling of strength. Artistic distortion has a long, venerable history.
