[Hypothetical] How woud player housing work?

Post » Fri Oct 12, 2012 11:35 am

Speaking hypothetically of course, how would a player home work in a way of an MMO (If there is any).

My only thought is a "instance" like GW2 or a private map like GW had (You are the only non-NPC). The "map" can be your own explorable area you can run around in then, of course, you got your house in that area.

Thoughts?

Player housing is nothing new to the MMO industry and has been here since the beginning. They have implemented it seamlessly in the world, instanced it, created pre-determined city locations, etc. If player housing were to ever be implemented into ESO, I would want it tied to the RvR as a incentive feature to make people care about the war. The faction that does well and claims territory will receive homes in the respective cities and those who contribute more can obtain larger homes. At the same time there is a fear of losing this territory, so it encourages players to stay active, vigilant, and keep the pace of battle going.

kind of a moot point since they've stated it won't be included. At launch anyways. I do like Redgaurd Kings idea of keeping it as an incentive for the war, but I think that's too far. Ultimately your home would be where you drop your loot and design things yourself. I don't think having it be in the center of a warzone that is constantly changing sides would be a good move as you could loose everything you've played for.

One thought i've had in my whimsical daydreaming about games is something along the lines of player owned fortresses. Essentailly each province would have a purchasable fortress that would need serious requirements to get, taking entire guilds of players to collaborate to actually be able to purchase it, upgrade npc's, defenses etc. The ultimate goal of this would be with open world pvp with real feuds created as opposing forces attempt to raid players castles, or raid provinces that the guild has sworn to protect that their castle is located in. Obviously won't be implimented in elder scrolls online in any form, since their won't be open world pvp nor player housing, but The idea struck me as alot of fun in my daily day dreaming.

I really like this idea but the biggest fear people have is the fact that real life does get involed and you might have to step away form the game for a month or more at a time. It would sure svck to come back and fined your house and items inside it gone! cause your faction couldnt keep the land/objectives alive. I however did like the SWG version of player housing and allowing them to place anywhere, but then again you runs into the issue of if someone leaves the game.... what do you do with there house? TES:O cant just destroy it cause all you do is piss of the community. There is one simple soloution to this is a strict time limit/maintence cost put onto house that are left unattended, not be destroyed, but packed up and put into your backpack including all items inside.

I, for one fully support player housing and would love to see it implemented into the game. Just as long the people are aware that if there house is packed up and stored for your convience that the only thing they loose out on is the spot they built it....... There again causing more problems  So unless they cant make the entire community agree (LMAO) the simple soloution is instanced housing.

supremacy, I may be wrong but I think you can find 99% of what you dream off in Guild Wars 2, minus the keep housing, and to be frank, it's not working too well.
One day you login and you are winning the fight vs the other two servers, you give your best and your "faction" controls almost all the keeps and so on, on the map.
Then you go to sleep, wake up, go to work, get back and POW, you've lost everything simply because there were not enough people online to defend it.

How many disappointments like this do you think you can take?
Losing everything over night?!
For me, one was good enough to know that there's no point in playing that game at all.
I STRONGLY hope that ESO will NOT be anything like that

I like what Riptose said about housing, and I would add that player homes must be functional.

Make it possible for players to add house extensions that suite their class or something.
Get a chair in front of the house so we can sit and enjoy the bloody view!
Show some imagination hehe...
