How would you feel if they killed off killed off the Dovakii

Post » Sun Oct 07, 2012 6:52 pm

The thought just occured to me that Bethesda's final piece of DLC extended the main quest, but ended with the player character (Dovakiin) dying. When you start the final quest there would be no turning back, and when you finish the final quest it is game over.

How would you feel if this were the case?

I would be surprised. They've never done this before. And I don't see anything to be gained from doing it now.

While it's nice from a conceptual point of view (and eases with later lore developments) it'll raise hell in the forums.

There's a reason gamesas released the Broken Steel DLC for Fallout 3. In case you didn't know, the DLC "fixes" the death of the Player Character and the subsequent Game Over screen.

I'd be mildly annoyed depending on what lvl my character was.

You can't really, safely, kill off the protagonist in an open world game like Skyrim. If the Dovahkiin gets killed off, it'll be off stage.

My reaction to them doing this with Fallout 3 was pretty strong and I'm not even that big of a fan of the Fallout series.

Wouldn't a dragon technically be the only thing to be able to permanently kill the dragonborn anyways?

Thanks for ruining Fallout for me :(

It's impossible, just like Todd Howard going bald, can't be done.

Didn't that happen with Mass Effect 3? Wasn't people angry for that? I didn't play the game, but I heard the ending was terrible.

It would effectively be reversing what Broken Steel did in F3, or making Skyrim like F:NV. And no, I don't like the idea. If you're going to have a terminating quest, make it a happy one. Like my old idea for the moot quest. You become High King Dovahkiin!

It was also because of the incredible stupidity of the vanilla ending.

Some say this is what Shivering Isles did. Unlike the past titles, where the Hero just fades out nonchalantly into history, the Champ of Cyrodiil becomes the Mad God. Not really killed off, but to me, being written off as an immortal background deity is pretty much the same thing in my book. So that he doesn't interfere (sort of) with the new title's Hero.

I'm all for Dovahkiin dying. You won't get the audience's juices flowing if you don't do something daring

Ending a character someone has put an unholy amount of time is isn't daring, it's stupid.

heh, I wouldn't never complete the game. Just like how I refused to complete FO3, well, that is until Broken Steel.

Uh no. What happened with ME3 is hard to explain to someone who has never played it. I personally think the ME3 ending with the EC DLC was ok, maybe even good, but then again ME is my favorite game franchise.

ME3's ending was really bad, like character breaking bad in a nutshell.

Broken Steel was a mistake that never should've happened. Fallout ends, TES doesn't. There is no reason why Skyrim should be any different in that respect.

As long as the D-kin doesn't do a Vader lame-o shout 'Nooooooooo' when he gets gacked, it won't bother me too much.

Apparently enough people disagree with you that Beth decided to change it :P Thats probably largly do to the fact most were probably TES fans first.

Alot of people said this. Its all opinion really. TBH I hated the original endings alot, but the extended cut dlc really fixed it for me so that it became acceptable. Esp with destroy. And even if people dont like the ending, theres no denying the fact that Mass Effect was THE BEST story-driven game franchise of our generation. It evokes emotions that no other game could.

As was I. I still think Broken Steel was a big mistake (as do many other Fallout fans), one that I hope they don't make agian with Fallout.

Beth has already fouled up enough with Skyrim that I would really hate to see them kill off the main character too. It just doesn't work IMO in TES.

I'd be infuriated. It ruins the very core of the Elder Scrolls series.
Cripple the character? Fine. Kill us off and send us to the afterlife? Ok. End the game? It's no longer an Elder Scrolls game.
