How do you build your two handed warrior?

Post » Tue Oct 23, 2012 12:33 pm

I have never successfully made a two handed warrior in skyrim and I really want to. I have an idea in my head of the basics of what I want and that's

Two handed (great swords)
Heavy armor (I really like the ebony mail)
Smithing
Block
Restoration

My question is how do you guys build your warriors? I'm not sure what I should use for ranged or to use ranged at all.
What are some skills that are fun and maybe a little different than the normal warrior?

I think you've got the right idea. Straight up warriors are some of the most simple builds there are. Range aren't really necessary, just bring along a companion as a distraction so you can close in; until you are tough enough to take arrows.

Mages, on the other hand, can one shot you at any levels. I found it clunky using wards with a two-handed build because you have to switch in and out every time. Keep restorations for just general healing, buff your Enchanting so you can have resistance gear. Also get Lord Stone.

I can try to make a build for you if you want.

IT really depends on playstyle and if you're roleplaying (And occasionally what your guy will wear)

I've played two 2-Hand warriors so far (and plan to play many more). One character wore Light Armor, one wore Heavy Armor.

On my Light Armor character I put all of my Attribute points into Health. That character took Smithing. All Perk points went into 2-Hand, Light Armor and Smithing.

On my Heavy Armor character I put about 90% of my Attribute points into Stamina, 10% into Health. That character did Alchemy. I put Perk points into 2-Hand, Heavy Armor and Alchemy.

Neither character used Enchanting. Neither character did any blocking (with 2-Handers I favor the "offense is the best defense" philosophy). Neither character used any form of magic. Neither character used Stealth or archery.

Overall, I felt my Light Armor character was the most fun.

I like the idea of using destruction for a cloak spell but like you said it's kinda clunky to switch in and out of wielding my greatsword. I also wanted conjuration but again with the switching.

I prefer light armor with 2 handed builds, for the stamina regeneration perk. However, with restoration you can heal stamina in addition to your health.

Honestly, if you want a smooth "Introduction to two-handed" playthrough, just stick to the standard Smithing-Enchanting to get good armor and resistance gears, with a good weapons to go along with. Might want to go with heavy armor if you play two-handed the first time, because that moment of inertia after you attack is when you are most vulnerable because you can't move. I still prefer Light armor though, less perks, same protection in the long run, and both trees meet at Dragonbone weapons; which are the best.

Go Archery if you like, take out archers and mages, soften up targets and finish them off at close range.

To supplement magic into two handed build is more like the battlemage. I usually cast Alteration and summon Atronachs BEFORE combat so I can focus on picking a target and rush him ASAP while my Atronachs aggro the range attackers. try to finish combat as quick as possible so you don't have to switch in and out healing spells.

Love the 2-handed and light armour build, but it's fairly difficult to pull off on higher difficulty settings.

This is how I made mine:
Two-Handed
Heavy Armor
Smithing
Archery
Alchemy

It works pretty good for me.

The one and only two hand character Ive ever built (which I am playing right now) has the following:

Male Orc - I like the Orc because of their Orc Berserk Racial ability.
2 hand - 15 Perks 5/5 Barbarian, 3/3 Deep Wounds, 3/3 Skullcrusher, Critical charge, Devastating Blows, Sweep. You MUST get sweep.
Heavy Armor - Take all perks except for Reflect Blows
Smithing - Go up the right (heavy) side and also take Arcane Blacksmith perk
Restoration - 2 perks. Take Novice Restoration and Respite.
Enchanting - 8 perks. Go right up the middle only all the way to Extra Effect.

Anything else is just gravy on top of what I posted above. No need really for ranged attack because you can use shouts for that. Buy Soul Trap as soon as you can so you can fill soul gems for later use.

Also, remember to use a trainer on each and every level BEFORE you level up. Start the Companions questline first. This will give you a chance to get your two hand skill up by doing the quests and/or training 2 hand or heavy armor with the trainers there. After leveling up a couple of levels, do the Orc quest that will get you Volundrung. You MUST have Volundrung which is IMO the BEST vanilla weapon in the game.

My Orc is level 40-something and is by FAR the most fun Ive had playing Skyrim. The only real difficulty I had was dealing with the Thalmor in the Embassy during that questline.

Be careful of the perks you do take. You don't need to max the 2h skill tree. Maybe that's just me, but that was some wasted perks. Also watch what perks you take for your respective armor.my main character can still hit the max armor rating and reduction for magic on both armors. Yes it was with the benefit of both alchemy and enchanting. Those are some of the best perks to take.
Just make sure you invest wisely the perks you pick, there is no reset button

Male Orc, Two-Handed (Greatsword specifically), Heavy Armor, Smithing. 50/50 for health and stamina.
