I am new to Skyrim, but have played Oblivion for several years with a PC. Casting a Power spell or any other spell was easy. Now I am a level 9 Warrior in Skyrim with no problem using my shout spells, but I am unable to cast a simple fire spell. My skill level for Destruction is 20, and when I equip with the fire spell (novice level) it shows up in my hands, but when I try to cast it with the right or left mouse, nothing happens. Secondly, in Oblivion, we were able to equip weapons, healing spells and destruction spells to the number keys 1-8, by using either F2 for weapons or F3 for spells and then press the selected number key (1-8) to be assigned and then click the mouse key on the desired spell. The manual indicates that you can do the same with Skyrim, but when I follow the instructions for number key assignment, nothing happens when I press the number key. Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this problem.

The number keys switch your hand to the spell. You then have to HOLD the mouse button that corresponds to the hand.

R pulls out your hands.


Edit: I love the idea of just binding all spells I use to a separate key and just pressing that key to use spells, but this game was featured around the use of a controller.

Sounds like a bug, there should be patches coming soon.

And for that keybinding, its still in : you have to do it in favorites menu, put your cursor on a spell/weapon and press the key you want to be keybinded.

Ex Spells
>Sparks
Click either L1 or L2 or both L1, L2 to equip the spell in Left hand, right hand or both

In game, simply hold L1, L2 and spell will cast.....
Some spells and weapons that cast... you have to press/hold and then release though

Thanks for the reply. Tried your suggestion and nothing gets binded to the selected number keys. Waited for this game to ship for over a month on pre-order and now it appears as though I may have a several bugs in the software. Hope they come out soon with a patch.

The key you have to press in the favorites menu MUST be a number key from 1-8. You pull up the favorites menu by pressing Q.
