Im sorry for asking a question that might be obvious to some.
I just installed Hearthfire, just finished building and decorating my home but I have not found any info on how to get a Steward out there.

Im sure it is simple and obvious and I am just going to look like an idiot but oh well =]

Bring a follower to your new home. If they don't ask about being the steward the option should be there as a conversation choice.

I have another question about Stewards, I would just get on my game and check these things myself but I will be away from my Xbox till tomorrow.

Can any follower become a steward or does it have to be a housecarl assigned to you when you become thane in one of the holds?

I think just about any follower can become a steward. I do not think temporary followers can and I am not sure about hired help.
