How do you get the Summerset Shadows quest?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 11:29 pm

Hiya. I'd like to do this quest as soon as I can because I heard you can get some cool armour. I've read the wiki and it says you get a special job from Delvin Mallory. I assumed all his and Vex's jobs were infinite radient story jobs, because there's no dialog describing them, they just say "Here are the details." According to the wiki you need to do five jobs in Whiterun before you get offered the special jobs. How do you do that? Delvin offers you numbers jobs, fishing jobs and bedlam jobs. Which of these should I take? Should I just keep taking any and quitting them if they're not in Whitrun, and do that five times? Or does one particular type of job lead me to the special jobs?

On a slightly related note, I want the leather armour the bosmer archer on one of the loading screens is wearing. I found out about the quest when I did a search for sleeveless leather armor, and a post mentioned Linwe's armour from the Summerset Shadows quest. But after looking at a picture of Linwe I don't think that's it. So has anyone seen that armour in the game? It looks like the common leather armour without the pauldrons. Is it actually in the game? Where can you get it if it is?

Thanks.

Hi,

Spoiler

First off, this is a Windhelm quest and not Whiterun. You can do any kind of jobs for Delvin or Vex until you have done 5 in Windhelm and you will then get the special job. The same goes for the other holds as well. Just note that you will not get a new special job if you are currently busy with another. Once you have done 5 jobs in Windhelm you will be told to go speak to an NPC there who will tell you that his daughter was murdered. This starts the quest.

The Summerset Shadows is an upstart High Elf only thieves guild with their own version of guild armour.

Looks identical to the Thieves Guild Armour. Stats are not as good as the Guildmaster armour though.

Gulildmaster? I've beaten that storyline all the way through and never got that;... It is Theives' Guild no?

Yes. After Brynjolf declares you to be the new GM, you still aren't actually. You have to do five successful "help the guild" quests in each of Riften, Windhelm, Whiterun, Solitude AND Markarth (there don't seem to be any - that I found - for Winterhold, Dawnstar, Falkreach or Morthal). The problem is that they don't tell you where the job is until after you accept it, so then you can either do MANY extra jobs in places you have already triggered, or turn the "bad" jobs down after accepting them - which counts as a failure.

Eventually you will notice four extra merchants in the Flagon, as Tonilia steadily gains more money to buy your loot. Finally Brynjolf will have a ceremony making you the official GM, and you'll be directed to Tonilia to collect your new GM armor and amulet. Here are the wiki links
