I don't understand where the game helps you level up this skill. I know there are trainers, and there are a few skill books and people you can persuade here and there for a level up, but is it even possible to get the skill to 40? I don't know how anyone can level up this skill.

Buy and sell things.

Mostly through buying/selling, but speech checks do level it faster. A good early on is Valtheim Towers. If you have not angered that bandit faction or accepted any radiant quests to that location every time you walk by the bandit outside can be convinced to let you pass for 50 gold. This levels speech quickly...

meadery glitch in riften

Buy, sell, persuade (no coin), and intimidate. Or glitch with the guy at Black Briar Meadery.

There is a man in Riften who is a terrible actor. He says how amazing the Blackbriars are. Call him out. Repeatedly. You will level to 100 in about 15 minutes.

I just loot and sell on a daily basis. I think my speech is nearing 50. I always attempt speech challenges too.

i know right, ive been selling unimaginable amounts of worthless tuff to get my speech up, and it goes nowhere, riften meadery here i come!

Speech is pretty dissapointing in Skyrim. I miss being able to taunt, bribe and persuade everyone to raise reputation (or in the case of taunt to lower it)

It also seems stupid to make speech level up by just selling and buying items. EVERYONE has to do this even if they don't want to level speech. >_<

I miss morrowinds barter system, much better. Choose items you want to buy, choose items you want to sell, then balance with gold... and if you want, raise or lower the final price (thats where the barter skill would kick in)

Really? I didn't like being able to pay people to be my friends.

edit: you can still do this in skyrim, but, well, not as much.

The glitch with the dude in riften helps

Takes longer than 15 minutes, but yes, this is the best way to get it up relatively quickly. I reccommend doing something else while tapping the button repeatedly. It takes a while. And mute it. His voice gets annoying.

Well, I know it wasn't perfect. But I'd rather be able to persuade people whenever I want, rather than when the game decides it's ok for me to use my speech skill. I'd rather if the older morrowind system was further refined. Bribes should only give a disposition boost for a short period of time for example.

So does selling stuff to the trader that has a value of 0 do anything to raise speech skills?
