How Do You Reset Save Game Number

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:30 pm

I was wondering if anyone knows how to reset the number next to your save. I assume I could delete all my games or move them all and start fresh but that is not what I am looking for. I currently have over 9000 saves and 6 listed in the load menu with 3 games started. Is there any way to remove the number all together? like in the ini? In Oblivion you gould just type "~save Whatever" and the numbers would go away. in Skyrim it still adds the numbers. Thank you for your thoughts.

I assume that if you reach 9000 then those are of multiple chars. I just move the entire folder and the game creates a new empty one whenever I start with a new character. That resets the number back to 1.

I don't think there is a "starting value" in the INI for this, like there is for Screenshots.

What I do is remove each and every save from my Saves Folder, then start a new game. It should set the save count to 0 at that point. If you put the other saves back after creating this, then the numbering on future saves based on that should work. But you would have to test it. I don't tend to mix my saves, but archive each character.

CCNA: Removing them sounds like you want to delete them. The method I suggested is more safe. Just drag the Saves folder to some other location or rename it. The game then creates a new empty folder and the number is reset automagically.

I had the exact same question a while back. OrdoAbKhao provided a solution using a hex editor to modify the files themselves. Of course, you would want to make backup copies of your saves before attempting this:

I would have said to delete them if that is what I wanted him to do. But, your right, my definitions for words are not the same as others.

OK, move the saves out of the Saves folder to somewhere else on your machine. Better? ;)

This
After a couple of tries I've got my save 1 at the very beginning at the beginning of my folder but if I start a new character the 1st save I make after that will be save 286 or whatever
The only way to go back to a true new start is to delete all saves including save 1

Or download a hex editor and follow the instructions at the link above. I can verify it works.
