How do you tell if you are having texture issues?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 5:21 am

The game looks great to me. Seeing snow on the ground and walls such as Windhelm up close looks a little blotchy, but other than that how can I tell if I am experiencing the texture issues everyone is talking about?

If it looks like an N64 texture up close - there's your answer.

That is exactly it, some things are razor sharp in detail but other things which really should be fine are muddy/blotchy.

I'll tell you guys how to tell the difference between low texutres and the high textures you should be getting...

Simply look at your character... Firstly, pull up a shield if you have one. See the inside of it? Ok, next... look at your character in the third person perspective. Make sure you zoom in close to have a look. Right, this is where you get to see your item of armour or weapon in the high resolution texture model.

Go into the menu and simply unequip the armour piece, for this example let's use a shield. Remember, take a look at the inside of your shield first by pulling it up infront of you in first person view. Right, now press B, go into the menu and unequip your shield in the APPAREL menu. Now, go back to your character and check him out without the item. After you've done that, you must go back into the APPAREL menu again and equip the shield in this example. Right, now exit to your character and pull the shield up again in first person view. You see it?! Right... quite a difference, eh?

The same thing can be achieved with every item of armour. However, upon doing it twice to a second item, the first item that was returned to a high texture setting will once again be dropped to a lower texutre setting.

There we go. Hope I was of some help. :hubbahubba:

Digital foundry have posted their 360/PS3 comparison video so you can see how the game should look when running correctly.

Textures are really sharp so if any of them is blurry, it's broken.
There's an easy way to see if textures are working fine, look for a wooden road sign on the road and if it's hard to read it, textures are broken. If it's really easy to read, it's fine.

Wierd hadn't heard of or seen the textures of a dragon wall going low res. Kinda proves that the glitch seems to have different effects on most individual players. For me its mostly the gloves (hands if said gloves aren't equiped), weapons and the odd enviromental texture here and there but I'd hardly say its annoying or affecting my enjoyment of the game considerably (though the upcoming patch will still be most welcome).

Today i saw one dragon in low res, it was the first time in 15-16 hunted dragons. It was in high res the last second of its life, and a low res dragon is awfully ugly trust me ^ ^

I have my copy installed and I am keeping it that way. But yes, I do have the texture bug.

Also, when looking at the ground, rocks, trees, etc close up their textures are EXTREMELY low res. Also, people's clothes look bad half the time.

I'm also confused.

At first I installed to hdd, and had the texture bug straight away, so I uninstalled and cleared the cache, and now I think it has been solved - my first-person hands and sword look clearly higher definition. But, I'm still seeing alot of horrible textures throughout the world, and I can't tell if that is just how they are supposed to look. Particularly rock and wood textures, the tables look disgustingly horrible. To compound the problem, I checked my bro's pc version, and the wood textures were just about as crap.

The texture glitch is pretty easy to spot on your hands. Especially if you have a spell equipped. Your hands will look very smooth and blurry, you wont be able to see veins or wrinkles. Also if a texture looks good far away, but bad up close ( and you don't see it "pop" when you move towards it) than there is no bug, whether you think it looks good or not.

I haven't installed the game to hdd yet, as I was aware of the graphics glitch but now after about 35 hours of play it seems like I'm experiencing a similar problem?

All of a sudden the disc drive has started running a lot louder than normal (I've tried other uninstalled games to make sure it's not just happening in general - it seems to only be happening with Skyrim). I've also noticed textures in the game are a lot lower than they were previously. My hands and arms are definitely low res compared to even just earlier today. Before you could see different spots of dirt on the skin and the arm bracers had fur & lacings - now it just looks very undefined and you can't pick out those details.

Has anyone else run into this problem running from disc yet?
