Hrothmund's Barrow, Hrothmund's Axe

Has anyone discovered a way to aquire the axe in the stone, there?
I don't use two-handed weapons, but I am a completionist, and it has a unique model.

It was there in morrowind. You couldn't get it then and I believe it's the same still. Which is annoying as it looks great now, better than in Bloodmoo, but you still can't use it.

I agree, that axe has to be the most coolest axe in the game. Like what ChaptTES said it was in Bloodmoon too, but it looked like a generic silver battle-axe.

Well clearly you have to to name your character King Arnold. King Arthur has his sword so obviously King Arnold would have his axe, right?

I wonder if it's like a giant's club, and only followers can pick it up and use it?

I like double bladed axes so prefer the blood moon style...on a side note it makes absolutely no sense why the axe would look different from the past.

The thing is "it's only a model." Technology can't match the imaginations of the people making the series, which is why lore!TES is much larger than what we see in individual games. Since the tech is better now that it was when Bloodmoon was released, the axe could be made to look cool and unique rather than just a huge silver axe.

So no. The axe is not obtainable.
At least with the Giant's club it had the 'option' of 'picking it up'. The axe doesn't give you the stat display or anything, at least in my game, so I doubt its obtainable. probably just a whole model by itself.

Maybe all these years it's been feeding on the crushed dreams of those who could not obtain it, and has thus grown in power and aesthetic appeal. :P

I tried everything possible to get the axe, all shouts, magic, bloodskaal balde, etc., etc. It's not possible to get this axe

Yeah, unfortunately. I tried Bend will, and had Mjoll take a stab at it as well. Nothing.

Seems it is to remain without master.

Also I think I like both looks. But the Skyrim version seems more Nordic and Barbaric. Where as the Bloodmoon one almost looks evil, like an Axe version of Volundrug (sp?).

More important to me, is the fact that I can't clear the damn place. >:(

I also tried bend will on it, was literally the first thing I thought when I saw it in the stone. Though I still only have the basic first word of the shout. That whole barrow is so awesome, it's a shame there isn't more too it besides the little side path.

Spoiler
The axe is solely there for the purpose of the Retaking Thirsk quest. Bujold(?) will come here and touch the axe, which makes Hrothmund talk to her.

I think a lot of folks knew that, some people just weren't ready to give up on the axe. Can't say I blame em.

Graphical upgrades, don't pay it any mind.

Neloth doesn't exactly look like he did in Morrowind, either. What, did you want them to import some pre-2000 models?

graphical upgrades and a completely different design aren't the same thing. also people change appearance over time but axes and inanimate objects don't.
