If Humanity is colonizing other planets, what would you be?

Post » Sun Jul 08, 2012 1:53 pm

The Mars One project and Mass Effect increased my interests of Space colonization. Whether or not Mars One will work or fail is up to 2021. But if the program works, and Mars became a thriving Colony, it will be a huge accomplishment for the Human race. And we need to explore and set up Colonies beyond Earth or else our overpopulation in Earth will bite our asses.

But imagine this, it's a hundred and fifty so years in the future. The Human race became an multi planet species and has set up colonies on dozens of Planets. What would your occupation be?

For me, I might be in the military.

You mean by old age? My mistake, Imagine if you time progressed and you haven't aged, (Or pretty much was born much later.) What would you be? Or will you still be dead?

Space Navy, obviously. I'm going to become a War Hero during the first Contact War when we encounter other sentient life.

That.. Or..

You become Commander Shepard? (Sorry, that just reminds me of Mass Effect for some reason.)

In all seriousness, I would probably be a journalist. I'd report for the Mars Daily Tribune.

I seriously want to become the first space marine, just so I can go to a 40k gathering or forum and laugh at everybody and tell everybody how awesome I am because I am a legit space marine. I don't know if I qualify for the Marines though, but I'd gladly put in a bit of work for those bragging rights.

Space Marine fantasy aside, I still want to go to space before I die, that is my life goal.

BGSF, we should raise money and all rent a private shuttle for two weeks or something in a few decades.

Agree, I doubt it but I do kind of want to be a space marine. (Or atleast in a galactic military in general) And explore other planets.

As long as people like myself exist, we won't need to leave the planet. Well, not for the reasons you've supplied the post with.

Most people I know dislike the idea of space and going to other planets, but then again some of them are the hippie/raging Earth fanatics so they see no reason to leave. I'd I were ever given a chance to go to another planet, I'd leap on it. I wouldn't particularily care if they said I was never coming back, as long as they gave me the tools to survive until a natural death. Before I go, I would make sure to read up on an article that exemplifies human stupidity, post the meme "I don't want to live on this planet anymore." and actually leave. I don't think that could be topped.

Well like I said, Earth is starting to get over populated. And since All of Earth is mapped and seen, I would figure many humans that are adventurousness would want to see and go to actual planets.

It's not that this particular planet bothers me, it's the fact I've lived here all my life. People often get bored of their childhood town, or the job they've had for 25 years and want to move on, I don't see why the same can't apply for planets. I'd totally love to be buried by my peers on Mars, because it'd be entirely symbolic of my entire existence: a social recluse out of superiority, not incompetence. This planet makes me depressed by the hour because of the political stupidity by both politicians and their sheep, and the fact that my homeland is being destroyed and sold out underneath me. Moving to another planet would disconnect you from all politics. I've had a theory that I've clung to for a long time, and that is "The best society is a society in progress." I have yet to see a society stay stable or true to its goals when it has completed its conquest. Once it can't expand, it always turns on itself. Back in the old days of America, if you didn't like the town rules, you skipped town and set up your own with like minded individuals. Those days are long since passed. Societies in progress tend to care less about politics and more about the people until they get a solid source of income and security.

Nah. I'd be too old by the time the Galaxy is threatened by something that large.

If I live through the contact war, the closest to the Mass Effect trilogy character I'd probably become is Captain Anderson. Kick ass, but not have the weight of entire species's on my shoulders. I'll probably mentor the real life equivalent of Commander Shepard.

I'd be living in a small colony on Europa, the moon. We were supposed to explore the vast ocean underneath the deep ice covering it, but since underwater exploring in total darkness scares me I got away with doing random [censored] in a office nearby.

So basically I'm a slacker.

I prefer the term illness rather than plague. If one seperates themselves from the Infected, they can become pure. This can be found when one completely seperates themselves from the rest of humanity. Humanity only suffers because they are often grouped together with different views as to how to maintain the group.

Interesting. Though If you go exactly like Anderson, you'll probably

True, though If I die in space, I would want my body to return to Earth as it is my homeland, (Or Ancestral if I was born on another colony.) And if I retire from military service, I will just go back to my home planet.
