Humor in "Sacred 2"

Post » Tue Jul 19, 2011 5:42 am

I recently reinstalled Sacred 2 and I'm playing it more effectively than the first time I tried it. I've enjoyed the NPC lines, including the bandit that when killed says "I knew it! I'm only an extra." Does anyone know a source that lists most of the humorous replies in Sacred 2?

I'm not sure. Perhaps starting one here will need to suffice!

One of my favourites is the song by the annoying bard in the human district, which has the line "when come back bring pie" gratuitously tacked onto the end of it.

I didn't notice that yet, though it's kind of amusing when the bard's lute in one of the early villages sounds like an electric guitar (he's singing part of the song that's later featured in the in-game concert).

My favorites so far are the kobalds, who seem to all sound like Gilbert Gottfried. Some of their lines when the player character cuts them down: "I see a bright light. I think I'll walk toward it."

"To have this happen just three days before my birthday!"

And a few others that I haven't made out just yet. I don't know yet if the undead have good lines.

I did find them amusing for a good long while! Eventually the "light metal" started to grate a little, though fortunately they're not too hard to disable (though I now forget the exact means of doing so).

The kobolds are indeed quite amusing, even if they do make me think more of psychotic garden gnomes. Talking of which, they'll never seem the same again after Fable 3's rather unpleasant gnomes; or the gnome that unexpectedly starts talking to you in New Vegas...

It's too long since I've played, but I recall that there's a lot of humour and somewhat offhand cultural references in Sacred 2. :)

the annoying bard in the human district

That would be Hansi Kürsch of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4d9rvFO32Y.

As for those quotes, if they'd only stuck with one or two every once in a while, then it'd have been fun, but every death quote is one of those jokes, and it gets on my nerves. You can only kill so many bandits before you frown at the so-manieth "I know were you parked your car, player!".

The dialoge is pretty funny in Sacred 2 and the kobolds are awesome.

I'm not sure it was the best showcase for Blind Grauniad: probably for the other reason you made, which is that some things were funny but overused. Hearing the bards suddenly strike up a metal riff was fun, but hearing either that or the same couple of lines of some rock ballad over and over wore thin pretty quickly. If it happened rarely, it would've been a lot more amusing.

I don't want to sound overly grumpy, though: a lot of the humour in the game was very well done. :)

I have it on 360. I enjoy it a lot. I have found one broken quest, though. But I can live with that considering the sheer number of other quests is immense.

I would describe it as a Diablo clone, so if you liked that series you would probably like "Sacred 2".

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I agree that the one-liners get repetitive after a while.

One of the things that may keep me from finishing the game is the sheer number of mobs that you start encountering even before you reach the first city in the game. You have a spell that's a one-hit kill when you're surrounded by the enemy, but it takes a long time to recharge -- something like five or ten minutes? But that's not counting your main abilities and spells, though. I'm going to try to stick it out with the game for a while.

I guess you don't know how to play the game , you need AOE spells/CAs and recharge timers are connected to skills and attributes ; what character do you play ?

I found that running away also helped: most of the mobs got bored and stopped chasing pretty quickly. Of course by the time you'd run far enough, you'd run into another mob. Or several of them.

I have three characters: the Dryad, the Shadow Warrior, and the Seraphim. I have the AoE spells for each also, though. For example, my shadow warrior has two undead minions and a battle standard, among other spells.

Vometia: That's true about running. What's fun is if you have the god spell recharged and can run to get a large group of enemies together before firing off the spell.

I remember this game. It was a lot of fun. But then my 360 crapped out on me for the last time and I sold it. I didn't end up buying it again because of the broken skills (I think it was smithing).

I really wanted my monowheel, too..

And every time you quicksave, all the enemies respawn. What a wonderful game mechanic :/

I never saw a problem with this. It's a game about hacking through mobs and mobs of enemies. The more the better.

I still play Sacred 2 on occasion with a friend that got it fairly recently. I will say that some characters are vastly overpowered, namely the Dryad and the BFG Seraphim.

Well, yes, but it's a silly mechanic, especially if you don't know it exists and keep wondering where all those enemies keep coming from.

I actually like the original Sacred better. Seems like Sacred 2 tries to hard to be funny while the original just was. Plus that German "light metal" that Vometia mentioned is annoying. I just remembered that Neuromantik was a big fan of Sacred 2. He hasn't posted in ages.

I play a Shadow Warrior as main right now, I'm just about to get into the orc lands, I've been exploring the map and trying to uncover it and I've done pretty much all of the elf and human realm. I'm over 200 quests or so, got 25% of the map explored and my guy is near level 50. I tear through pretty much every mob because my skill levels for the skills I actually use are in the 16+ range. I do about 1,200-3,800 dmg with most of them so most mobs don't have a chance..plus having 1,800 armor or so. I use a 2H axe at the moment and I think I hit for about 500-700 on every hit. I never knew that about the quicksave and really never noticed, I figured the mobs of enemies were supposed to be there lol. Sometimes I like to gather up a big horde and then use my turret thing and I just decimate all of them it's pretty fun.

I think I put 46 hours into the game so far and one of the reasons I think I survive so much is because I have over 1000 potions.
