Hunter perk - Useless?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:28 am

here's why i think the hunter perk is complete garbage.

deathclaws, cazadores and nightstalkers are all considered abominations.

the only effected npcs are
-bighorners
-brahmin
-dogs
-giant rats
-molerats
-geckos
-coyotes

not to mention it requires 30 survival, which is considered a wasteful stat even on hardcoe.

so while the 75% critical damage bonus seems nice on paper, it's actually useless seeing as the effected npc's are weak.

any comments/counter-arguments?

It may be a decent perk for the starting levels. There are several perks that don't have any use at level 30.

Agree completely with the OP. It's a useless perk considering you can easily one shot most of those with a varmint rifle or something else easy to get ammo for.

I disagree. The survival skill frees up my caps for spending on things like weapons, ammo, and meds. I don't play on anything other than hardcoe Mode. Besides, the increased damage makes it possible to take down an entire Bighorner herd with smaller caliber weapons quickly, much akin to what a hunter would be able to accomplish.

I agree, even the "legendary boss" versions of those enemies go down fast. Abominations and (sadly) humans cover 90% of the actual threats in Vegas

That's true but the Hunter perk is hardly useless. Lead Belly and Here and Now are far more useless.

I disagree that survival is useless. On hardcoe, getting it to 50 so I can make my own water, etc. Very useful. At harder difficulties, you get dehydrated quicker.

Also, the higher your survival, the better the effect of food and water.

Is it the most useful? No.

Do I regret getting it to 50? Not at all.

But you are right about Hunter. Useless crap.

Hunter perk is not useless but there are always better perks to grab. Even early on. I was thinking about hunter but when I did list of perks, which I want to take, I found out it is too weak to get there.

The perk really seems it would only be useful for early levels to deal with Geckos, or could be used if you wanted to roleplay a hunter character.

As far as survival, I really only felt it was necessary to get it 25, anything higher is a waste. With 25 you can make gecko steaks out of gecko meat. They're an excellent food source for dealing with hunger and geckos are easily killed and found in abundance near the early areas of the game.

Nope, those are "insects" (technically arachnids grr), which are covered by the Entomologist perk.

Word.

I may not play that way, but this^ guy does, so its not a wasted perk, its just not for everyone
