After getting into a fight I have got ice shards stuck in me permanently. When you switch to third person they fade out after a few seconds, but the frosty mist that accompanies them is still present, enveloping my body.

Anyone know of a way to get of them, without loading an earlier save?

I had the same issue with arrows being stuck in my characters eyes, they would sit there permanently but it eventually fixed itself. Are the Ice Shards effecting your first person aspect besides the mist. If not try fast traveling I believe that fixed my issue or clear your cache and redownload the patch.

It's not affecting my first person view, even the mist, cannot see it in first person.

Fast travelling has no effect. I can't see that clearing the cache would - all that would mean would be that I would have to re-download all the patches for all my Xbox games. Can't see how doing that would fix this issue.

Well after playing for a while today, I went into 3rd person and the ice shard and mist had vanished, which is nice. Don't know what got rid of it, but I'm glad it went!

The sure fire way to get rid of these ice shards (and persistent arrows stuck in your character) is to get hit by more arrows/ice shards. After about three new ones get stuck in you, the old ones and news ones will eventually disappear. Hopefully this will be fixed this week!
