Idea for Seasonal Celebrations in Skyrim

Post » Mon Aug 06, 2012 2:53 pm

In my opinion, I think it would be very interesting to see seasonal celebrations taking place in the communities around Skyrim that would occur every so often throughout the game. I would love to see something like Halloween in there. Obviously they would have to come up with completely original festivals to keep with the lore, but it would be neat to see constant change within the cities of Skyrim. After a while of seeing the same people do the same things day in and day out, it starts getting rather stale.

What's your take on this?

For that we need actual seasons, and for that we need something that there won't be needing to wait an ungodly amount of time to get to those seasons.

After thoroughly enjoying the Burning of King Olaf in Solitude, I would love to see more celebrations like it. Between the civil war, Thalmor oppression and rampaging dragons, I'm sure Skyrim's kin would jump at the chance to party away their troubles for a few days. It would be great to wander into a hold and seeing the place bedecked with colourful flags and candles, vendors hawking treats and trinkets on street corners and storytellers enthralling children while their parents dance to a bard's melody.

Exactly! And when my character drinks a lot of mead, I would love having the effect of him/her being wrecked! I would really love to see carved up pumpkins or gourds for a Hallow's Eve festival or something to celebrate the dead. People in mideavil times from all kinds of cultures did something similar. It would be neat to see the kids doing something else than just running around with snot nosed attitudes. It would also be cool to see the entire city of Solitude take part in a masqurade ball or something.

I think that to go with the lore, the city of Windhelm should have a Festival of Ysgramor's landing in Skyrim, and a solemn day to remember the Great Collapse in Winterhold would be really cool. Solitude does have the Burning of King Olaf, and that was a thoroughly enjoyable.

The only beef I had with that festival was the fact that I was promised a meat pie and I got something that looked exactly like an apple pie. What the deuce!

I hadn't even considered a masquerade ball, but that would be awesome. There are so many holidays that have already been mentioned in the games that putting a few of them into action wouldn't require any tweaking of the lore at all. Like the New Life Festival, for instance. Tamriel's take on New Year's. Or Heart's Day, their Valentine's Day. Tales and Tallows could make for some pretty interesting reveling as well, seeing as it's a celebration of necromancy. And then there's the Feast of the Dead on the 13th of Sun's Dawn, a holiday specific to Windhelm that was conceived to honour Ysgramor and his Companions.

We need seasonal changes, natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, severe storms, blizzaards. Then we could have 50 holidays spread out through the month, with a festival that occurs at the beginning and end of every month.

Floods and earthquakes should be shouts! But yeah, I agree. They included almost all of the seasons in specific regions of Skyrim, but they don't change. Riften has fall, Solitude has spring, Windhelm, Dawn Star and Winterhold have winter, Whiterun, Falkreth, and Riverwood have summer.

Random celebrations. How about a pumpkin patch celebration in Whiterun when the Stormcloaks invade the city? Talk about crashing the party.

Maybe a small festival were jesters take to the streets and amuse people, perhaps the thiefs guild in riften could use this as a guise to pick a few pockets or 3? The Assassins guild could use this for assassinations and such. Would be nice for the events and completely at random, you could assassinate/pick pockets if a member of the respective guild, or thwart if not.

A costumed festival in Falkreath would be nice, could be called the The day of Arkay and people dawn black garmets and animal hides as costumes to honor their loved ones, each holiday would bring unique loot such as weapons and armor you couldnt find anywhere else, or a day were the executioners take out their quota meaning you can join the frat and get those executioner duds ^^.

And with seasons comes warmer clothes and colder clothing. Maybe we could get the unique leather and assassin armors from the loading screens, you know the leather without the pauldrons and the assassin armor with the hood worn around the neck like a scarf.

Plus on these seasons your loved ones and friends could hand you gifts.
