IDEA: Living Word mods

We all remember that Oblivion quest that took us into a painting.

What if books that would grant stat bonuses when read actually took us into a playable adventure that would award the stat bonus upon completion.

What if books of a historical or documentary nature took us into the actual events of the book. Make it so we can move around but not interact with anything or anyone.

When we read the book we could get a prompt that allows us to just skim the book (normal reading mode) or seriously read the book (adventure mode). If it is an interactable story, such as one that grants stat bonuses, when we start, all of our unequipped inventory goes into a special container and all of our equipped inventoru goes into another one. gear and items pertaining to the book would be in containers as well and would be added and equipped accordingly. The only thing that would not be taken out of our inventory would be the book itself. Using it while in adventure mode will take us back to the normal game, swapping gear and items the same way.

Would something like this be enjoyable for anyone?

Thanks...

I'm probably going to try my hand at it when the Creation Kit comes available.

It would be amazing, but a ton of work.

Well, I think the best way for me to start is to focus on books that are not part of amulti-volume series. That way if the project proves to be too much for me in terms of time I have available, it's no real loss if I stop.

We'll see what happens...

Sounds like the story behind Myst.

Which is ironic, to me, because the way they did Dwemer ruins in this game are always how I envisioned D'ni after reading the Myst novels.

This is a great idea. I would totally get behind this. Adventures could be short 5 minute things to totally drawn out adventures. And it has so much freedom of creativity that your only limitation is the book in question...
