Ideas for mercyfull melee mechanics! :)

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 11:30 pm

I had an idea: Instead of only using the classic fatalities from Dark Messiah, Corvus should allso be able to intimidate his foes into surrendering once the adrenaline bar is filled. Various ideas should be popping up now right? Cool disarms.. various combinations of shouts and body language.. neat lines that convince foes to disappear into the many map fasades saying "I′m done with this, I swear!"

It would feel so great you know? Inspired by your mercy, these deserters would escape into a life outside the Regime, leaving room for more oppressors to be slayed or spared by your hand :D

I′d dream for such a game!

I'd like to see some Arkham City style knockouts. Suspending your foes with wires was one of my favorite tricks in the other Batman game. I'd also like to turn guards against each other.

Cool. If there won′t be any wires to suspend those guards with, then perhaps you could use the guards' handcuffs against them- through stealth, time freeze or swift adrenaline moves?

Turning enemies? Perhaps Charm from Dark Messiah? Why not use what Dishonerd allready develops; Once stealthed you freeze time, then obsess a thug to give his friend a kick wherever- before exiting?

I'd like to be able to drug guards so they wonder around in a daze for a while. That way they look drunk and don't look like they've been taken down by a skilled assassin.

Edited. I would like to blend combat and communication in a way. I'd like to be able to grab a person in an interrogation hold where I can "motivate" them to talk. Once i get the information, I can knock them out, kill them, or even let them go and apologize.

hahaha

Look, I deeply enjoyed the flowing combat from Dark Messiah and Bethesda allso make some great games.. but Arkham Asylum showed even me that such a feature doesn′t require "killing fiction".
But for any game- even Dishonored- it′d be wierd to have both the choice to kill and spare. I mean, no character would make any sence all with that kind of attitude! Besides, with such a choice implemented that badly in a game,
people would risk taking it way seriously.

Some of this responce comes from reading a recent Skyrim comment of yours btw, so enjoy the fame lol

urgh all this talk of batman. i tell you all its one of the worst games ive ever played. no block button, hammer one button to attack, a indicator appears on screen telling you to counter attack, grappling hook is auto aim, jumping is mostly automated, attacking from above is automated.... its hardly a game. the only thing you do yourself is those silly riddler puzzles and the remote controlled batarang. cant stand it. its near impossible to even die. its not fair it sells well simply because its batman. at least they added upgrades this time around. :swear: when will the day come that FP/RPG/IS genre is widely recognised as the greatest. i dont even see it as a opinion, i see it as a fact.

apologies about that rant. im not usually bitter like that but it just makes me mad, and with good reason.

to make up for that off-topic rant here is my "merciful melee mechanic" contribution, taken from another post of mine.
you have to "aim" your shield whilst blocking, is the enemy thrusting? just hold block. is the enemy striking from above? whilst holding block you have to hold up aswell to hold the shield up. is the enemy slashing? hold block and left or right depending on which direction hes slashing from. the only drawback to this is either movement or looking would not be possible whilst blocking (at least on consoles) i believe movement would be the best sacrifice, since your blocking you wont be doing much moving anyway. just let go of block and you can run dodge etc again. imo this would make combat very engaging and challenging, and revolutionise first person melee, especially if magika and ammunition was limited so melee is essential at times(if your not playing stealth only that is).

this would definately need more thought though. but its a great concept.

Sam Fisher called. He says you two should hang out.

then snake turned up, interrogated sam fisher about stealing his interrogation methods, then snapped his neck and said...."splinter cell svcks!"

nah its ok there is just much better stealth games imo. ones that mix it up with combat every now and then like tenchu, syphon filter, goldeneye...metal gear. then of course theres the fp/rpg/is genre that gives you complete freedom most of the time...

EDIT: Have not played Thief yet so dont plan to blackjack me just yet!
