This might be pretty long.
Skyrim is about your dragonborn character. Bethesda has offered plenty of ways to customize him/her, but whenever I play, I get disappointed that the best weapons and armors are always Dragon and Daedric. So someone that maxes out smithing usually always ends up having the same thing that someone else has. And if you are a high level with the difficulty >novice, you don't really have a choice when it comes to picking armor and weapons. And I'm always thinking that there are a few more things that Bethesda could have done to make your dragonborn character even more unique than he/she is. And I'm hoping that some of these things could be added into one of the next major DLCs for the consoles.
-Weapon Crafting
Not weapon smithing, where you gather ingots and leather and press (A). I'm talking about some actual weapon crafting, where you create a customized weapon, it's something I've always wanted to do in a game. I don't know anything about making games, so I don't know if something like this would glitch to high hell or actually be viable.
I've thought about this, and yes, it could make smithing irrelevant, but since I thought about it, I also thought about how it could be implemented in Skyrim without making crafting/enchanting irrelevant.
Weapon crafting could be made to only be accessible to players with the smithing skill at 50+, and it would be part of a bigger DLC, and at the end of the DLC quest, you will have the option to make JUST 2 weapons. To make it so that the weapons aren't terribly overpowered, it couldn't be stronger than the best thing you can craft at your skill level (If Orcish smithing is your highest smithing perk you can't make the weapon stronger than orcish weapons).
For the actual weapon appearance, these sections would be options while making the mold for the weapon, there could be newly added designs and the options for each section increase the more varieties of weapons you smith, so if you smith every single weapon, you have every single option.
Also there could be an option for blade length, more length = more weight and slower attack, and less length = less weight and slower attack. (with a limit to length and shortness of course)
Sheath
Pommel
Handle
Hilt
Blade
After the mold is finished, you will have to find items to actually make each part, shouldn't be too hard, except instead of weapon damage being dependent on blade material, (ebony, daedra heart, iron, steel, etc) the damage would just be dependent on smithing skill, so custom iron weapon damage = custom ebony weapon damage. This is so that ingot type would just be cosmetic (moonstone sword would be possible).
The weapon would be able to be upgraded at a grinding stone just like any other weapon, and base weapon damage would scale depending on your highest smithing perk.
I had a few more ideas in my head for this, but I forgot some, I'll update as they come back to me.
-Armor Crafting
Because it wouldn't be fair to just have weapon crafting! Only ONE set of armor and ONE shield.
Crafted armor would be less detailed as weapon crafting, because each armor has a certain look that probably wouldn't mix with any other armor.
But armor could be customized with
Different colors
Color Designs
Wear & Tear (dents, scratches, scuffs, blood, etc.)
How new the armor looks
Accessories (belt, spikes, studs, satchel, cape etc.)
Dirt
The shield would have
Different colors
Design (I've always liked the Pale guard's shield paint and would want that design on my shield)
Wear & Tear
How new the shield looks
Dirt
I'll update this if new ideas come along
-Invisible Helmet Option
Sometimes I like seeing my character's face.
-Entomophobia (insectophobia) option. I sort of just wanted to throw this in here.
I know this seems like an option that would be useless for majority of the people who play this game, but I have a phobia of bugs, very few people who play this game probably do too, it's actually stressful for me to have to encounter chaurus, evolved chaurus, spiders, other bug-like creatures in Skyrim, I always try to avoid them, but some quests make you go through areas infested with these creatures. (I was like this in Fallout 3 and New Vegas also) I know I don't have to play this game if it's that bad, but this game is one of the most entertaining ones I have.
Or if you don't have a phobia, and you just don't like bugs, then you can turn this on.
This option could replace all bugs with wolves, bandits, anything else.
-An Arena
I was sort of expecting an arena in Skyrim because Oblivion had one. The arena can be used to raise skills instead of trekking around to find a couple animals and bandits and barely raising a skill.
The Arena could have a tournament like in Oblivion, and as a bonus, trophies to put inside your house from winning. No Dragon Shouts.
And of course, to prevent people from getting skills to 100 quickly, there would be a limit to how many times you can enter for a day. And after you've finished becoming a champion, there could be a very difficult challenger fight every week. And to keep things interesting, Arena Points. Arena Points can be used to purchase a variety of uniquely named weapons/armors/accessories with unique enchantments on them. Arena Points can be earned by winning fights. Sometimes you can enter in specialized fights that give more Arena Points, like naked fist fights, team fights, player versus 3 or more enemies, random weapon fights, Ranged fights where there are two platforms across from each other with water in between (I can see potential for horrid glitching in ranged fights, so in the water there could be a forfeit doorway), booby trapped arena (Arena with booby traps all over), etc.
What do you guys think?
