However, there is one thing about this mod that always bothered me; In the mods MCM, there is the option to toggle the in-game compass with X. While this is all well and good, I just feel like it takes away from the immersion a little bit. What, you just press a button, and the magical compass comes back on the screen?
So, to solve this slight immersion-breaker, I came up with an idea: Make an actual compass as an item, and have the in-game compass only show up if the player has the compass equipped. Now, this could be done in a number of different ways:
1) The compass could be on a necklace, and the user would simply have to equip that necklace for the on-screen compass to appear (you could also have the option of a toggle key to turn the compass on or off, the same as it is now, but the key would only work if the necklace was equipped)
OR
2) You could make the mod similar to kellpossible's equip-able map mod, where you actually equip the compass in your left hand. From here, the compass would be handled the same as in option one, where the compass is either on-screen for as long as the compass is equipped, or have a toggle key turn the compass on/off. However, you could also go the MOST immersive route, and either have to USE the compass (hold whatever button you have mapped to your left hand) for the compass to show up in the HUD, OR (and this would be amazing if it were possible), the compass would actually be functioning IN GAME, and by activating your left-hand, you could actually look at the compass (similar to the equipable map mod) and the compass would ACTUALLY be pointing north like a real compass. While I'm not sure if this is possible, it would bring a whole new level of immersion if it were.
Both of these options offer not only realism and immersion, but they also make you have to sacrifice a little bit in order to use the compass. Option 1 makes you give up your necklace slot (which could otherwise be taken up by an enchanted necklace), while option 2 makes you give up your off-hand for as long as you want the compass on-screen. This mod could either be standalone, or actually incorporated into iHUD, but either way I think it would bring a greater sense of immersion to Skyrim.
What do you guys think? Do you like this idea? Is it even possible? And if it is, who among you has the know-how and desire to create it?
