Imperials playable race

Post » Tue Jun 11, 2013 6:27 am

I think there are lot of people that will agree with my request, but I've been playing as an imperial since Morrowind and I was disapointed when I heard that in TES Online I won't be able to choose imperial race. That is totally lore unfriendly, they are one of the most important races in TES series, I don't want that some High Elf come to Cyrodiil and burn the imperial province, I've had enough of that in skyrim (the great war), without me able to defend it as a soldier of imperial legion. Besides having Nords,Dunmer and Argonians in aliance is worst than this, they are sworn enemies. So please, make possible for us to chose imperial race.

won't happen, but there's an easy way for you to avoid frustration: wait for TES VI

I agree, but since this is going to be an MMO it's not possible unless Imperials have three subraces (Colovian, Nibese, can't name one more) to make it fair. I also hate the Ebonheart pact for what it is, but they had to make it so it could fit as an MMO.

If this was a story in a book you'd see in a single player game, the factions would look different.

Desperate measures often call for strange circumstances.

Besides, at this point in TES history, the idea of an 'Imperial' wasn't really around in the sense of a Race. As an Imperial itself isn't a race per se. More of a ideology of unity between Colovians and Nibenese.

Well if they weren't trying to shoehorn DAOC PvP into the game I'm sure it'd be possible but sadly, this will likely have to wait until TES 6.

BTW there are Imperials in this time, aka Cyrodiilians, and they are working for the Camerons and the Tharns.

They COULD introduce Imperials as a race that can join any of the 3 factions in an expansion (where some Imperials begin to defect), kinda like Pandas in MoP but I wouldn't hold my breath honestly.

Geography plays a part in it too--The Dunmer's only neighbors that aren't working for Molag Bal are the Nords and Argonians. It's an alliance of convenience--The three nations of the Pact want to remain independant. Even though the Dunmer don't get along particularly well with the Nords or the Argonians, they're setting aside their differences so as to not be overwhelmed. If they were to continue to fight amongst themselves, the Nords and Argonians would be fighting wars on two fronts, and when Skyrim and the Black Marsh inevitably fell, the Dunmer would still be fighting wars on two fronts--Only against the peoples of eight nations, rather than two. At least working together, they have a chance of remaining free.

(This isn't about game mechanics, since we won't be able to directly attack other factions in their homelands, it's about basic strategy, where fighting wars on multiple fronts is a blunder of monumental proportions.)

You sure you don't mean Morrowind Henrik? http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Races

Imperials could be introduced as a non allianced faction, meaning you could choose which side you want to fight at and which province to start at character creation.

I would love to be an imperial as i have been since they where introduced in Morrowind (allright i admit i was a woodelf there first) and then fight with the the Ebobnheart Pact and start in Morrowind.

The Dunmer would never join forces with the Altmer because of their racial hatred towards them. Yep they hate the Altmer more than the Argonians and Nords. There is a quiet respect between the Nords and Dunmer as they are neighbours and can be seen in Winterhold College and the Grey Quarter where most of the Dunmer in Skyrim live at the time of the events. Remember the cataclysm didn't happen until around the red year so Winterhold is in its full glory, and the distrust of the mages guild and magic is not as prevalent at the time of the game.

The Argonians have been slaves to the Dunmer for a while so I can understand if they join in with the Ebonheart Pact mainly because they was probably forced into it. Much like a peasant army of our dark ages, where a noble lord would forcefully conscript people into his army to bolster ranks.

this got me reading the race descriptions...

funny what happened through the ages to the Khajiit race:

from:
Khajiit are a fair-skinned people who are extremely hardy, intelligent, and agile. Legend has it that they descended from an intelligent feline race, for they still retain a strange cast to their features. Many Khajiit have taken to painting their faces to more resemble their distant cousins, the predatory cats that hunt the great desert. Khajiit are expert climbers, able to scale chasm wall sides with speed unmatched by any other race. They are adept at all arts involving thieving and sleight of hand.

over:
Khajiit hail from the province of Elsweyr. You are part of a tawny-skinned people, extremely hardy, intelligent, and agile. Many Khajiit have taken to painting their faces to more resemble their legendary feline cousins, the predatory cats that hunt the great desert. Khajiit are on the whole excellent climbers, and adept in all the arts of the thief.

to:
The Khajiit are a race of feline humanoids hailing from the province of Elsweyr, well-known for their keen intelligence and agility. While these traits make them superb thieves and acrobats, Khajiit are also fearsome warriors, although seldom gifted with the skill to harness magical forces.

judging by this I'd say any "in TES [1...5] there was..."-argument is invalid

Hehe, I had to look it up myself to be sure. It's been a while since I've had a working PC that would play nice with Arena and Daggerfall. Then again, I sometimes have trouble remembering last week, much less a game older than my youngest siblings (huge age gap, as in 17 and 18 years difference).

Some of it's the graphical limitations of the older platforms, likely combined with limited art budgets. They couldn't make a convincing enough cat person, so they said that they look a little funny and use face paints to "Hey look! Cat people!". The Argonians went through a similar "evolution". Between the major stylistic changes, and the inclusion of Imperials and Orcs, you pretty much have to separate TES into 1-2 and 3-5, plus wherever the spinoff games manage to fit in. TESO will create another division, where some fans of the main series will (if they haven't already) disconnect it from the "real" history.
