Importing Oblivion meshes

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:04 pm

I'm trying to import a static object (furniture) from a mod resource made for Oblivion but the GECK crashes every time I try to import it. I used 3ds Max & Niftools to import it as an oblivion model and then export it as a fallout 3 model with no settings changed(it doesn't work in the f3 geck either, but it doesn't crash).

What should I do to properly import this? Is there an applicable tutorial? I've found a few, but they are for things like helmets and have stuff and settings specific for those resources, not this.

Thanks...

I don't know how it is done in 3DS, I use Blender, but what you need to do, is delete the collision mesh, then give your object a new collision mesh.

My tutorial on Blender and GIMP (in my sig) actually includes a chapter on FOMM and Nifskope. The process I describe for porting models into Fallout 3 is dated now (the current Blender NIF scripts do it automatically without the Nifskope step now), but this may actually be to your advantage in this case. I say that because I describe a process of converting a Fallout 3 ashtray into your model by cut/pasting the NiTriStrip blocks between two copies of Nifskope (one with your 3DS Max model and one with the Fallout 3 ashtray). It might be worth the time to review the steps, I think it might work for you.

Luck,
