Importing Oblivion Mods into Skyrim

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 7:50 am

I'm trying to change the appearance of the DB armor hood with a hood mod for oblivion. after renaming the texture files, they appear ingame on the default hood. but after adding and renaming the appropriate meshes I get a white exclamation mark. is skyrim using a new "kind" of nif files and can't recognize the ones for oblivion? are there tools already available to import oblivion meshes into skyrim?

No, it doesn't work that way yet.

That's not to say there isn't a way to do it. There just might be a more complicated process of converting the model files. Models aren't my thing, but give things a few weeks, and people will have tips on this forum and the ck wiki. There's more than one custom armor set from Oblivion I'd like to see updated for Skyrim, ideally by their original creators.

Just to state the official line here, Dont distribute mods that use assets from other games, private use if you own both games is fine but releasing a mixed mod will probably get you banned from these forums and the mod hosting sites.

I don't think they're talking about adding stuff that was in Oblivion into Skyrim, but armor made for it. Ordinator armor, Lich King Armor, stuff like that. That's fine, since none of that was originally in Oblivion. Just need the mod maker's permission.

Yes that will be easy once Niftools releases proper importers / exporters for the new(ish) nif format.

Well he said it was content from mods, not official content from oblivion and he never even mentioned anything about releasing it. So pretty sure hes talking about importing things from oblivion mods to skyrim for personal use.

On topic: I'm pretty sure theres a way to do it sooner or later, if not now. Probably will need a converter of some kind though, not 100% sure though since modelling isnt my thing.
