Why? What really needs to be done is a mass overhall on it to make it HARDER to up smithing. Not eayser.

Agreed. Smithing Iron should only level your smithing so far, then you need to move to steel and so on.

Make it harder? The only way I could up my smithing when I first played was by crafting armors and weapons I didn't even want to use. That was until I found out about the iron dagger trick.
