Indoor Butterfly Beauty

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:12 pm

I had a huge highlight in my Skyrim gameplay the other day. I had built and planted out a greenhouse for the first time recently, left for a while and then swung by to check on things. I'd heard there would be butterflies in there, but gosh- I had a flashback to the amazing Butterfly Conservatory at the AMNH in NYC! I walked around oohing and ahhing a long time, then caught them all.

Show over, I went off to putter about the trophy room and after a while I hear this whirring... a torchbug? Now it's night and the greenhouse is awesomely filled with glowing luna moths and torchbugs. Perfect. Thanks to whoever thought to add this little touch!

(And thanks for that bird nest too, although I can't figure out how to harvest it yet.)

If you jump up on that long planter box you can reach the nest. That's the one thing that never respawned for me though. :(

Edit: I love the greenhouse except for the bees, I get tired of the buzzing.

the bees won't stop re-spawning... I think having a greenhouse in my family home was a bad idea...

but the torchbugs and butterflies are awesome.

taking the honeycomb off of the cupboard every time it spawns helps a little, but I always have to catch all the bees fast as I can.

I like bees. They're useful in potions; I never seem to have enough.

If you keep the greenhouse doors closed, I suppose that will keep the bees where they belong!

No defying logic, the bees and torchbugs can actually mysterious get through closed doors. So each time you return home you are still checking half your house for bugs.

Ah, I've seen them go through the outside walls and ceiling, so ghosting through doors make sense too! I bet devs just installed some spawn/roam areas like for outdoors, and it was maybe impractical to specially shave down their volumes to room size.

plus if I close a door, someone can always open them while I am gone.

I do keep the greenhouse door closed. Can't seem to get the spouse, kid, or dog to remember to keep the damn door closed BECAUSE YOU'RE LETTING THE BEES IN THE HOUSE AGAIN, dammit. Typical. :D

At least the bees won't knock over your carefully placed decor like the dog does. :)

I love Meeko, but I almost cried when I saw him sticking his big feet in the snowberry crostata, five seconds (I kid you not) after I had fully furnished the kitchen. I know the space next to the oven is warm and cozy, but he's so clumsy, poor dog!

And you can't even swat him with a newspaper since there's no newspapers in Skyrim.
