Infernal City & Lord of Souls

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 1:42 pm

Just about to finish the Lord of Souls TES book and finding it fairly entertaining. I was wondering what everyone thinks about the books and whether or not they'll be mentioned or have any impact on the game at all

Maybe.

It's been some time since the books.

Damned, now I'm going to have to get Lord of Souls...

Lord of souls was released this year so you should! They left you at such a cliff hanger inconclusively, but the writing stays the same story flows as you would expect it. Lots of unanswered questions

It should be referenced since it's entire point was to bridge the gap between Oblivion and Skyrim.

I'm still reading so can't read thread. OP question, yes, I think they will be referenced. I'd be disappointed if they weren't since Bethesda cooperates with the author.

I'd hope to find out more about attrebus and if he ever did become a successful emperor than casual mentions of the umbriel crisis.

Another thing my country didn't get to see, so no bridge for us. Kinda said tho, all the things I've read online connected to Morrowind is really bad imo.

Is there anywhere I could read a plot summary of those books? I'm mostly interested about the political changes in Tamriel and I do not wish/have time to read the books myself.

I didn't like them very much because I would have preferred to read more about the actual political situation in the empire, not that fictional floating city with its weird system of competing kitchens. They create more questions than they answer, at least as far as the empire is concerned...

I suspect there will be a novel about the events of the flying city. It will account for how the mages defeated the flying city and there will be no mention of Sul and that Imperial Agent. It is probably intended to make us think about how much truth there is to other books within the TES universe.

Same with Prince Attrebus, who will probably remain larger than life in his autobiografy, with no mention of his involvement in the flying city affairs, even though that is where he really did some good.

Spoiler
Attrebus in the interest of promoting stability let the College of Whispers and the Synod take credit for resolving the crisis. His other legacy was nonsense, which of course is a major theme of the first book. If he's remembered for anything of significance it's for his actions after the books end.

I'm really interested in finding out how it ties together. Attrebus does not seem like the kind of person that would ever approve of what we've already seen the Empire doing in Skyrim, so he would not want his successors to do something like we've seen. I wonder who's in charge as of the time of Skyrim. Of course, we learn near the end of the second book that...
Spoiler
the emperor himself is a slave to politics, and in the interest of stability has to allow some unfortunate things to happen. It's possible Attrebus and his successors no matter their intentions are all still slaves to such politics.
