Infinite Arrows? Crafting Arrows?

Post » Thu Aug 08, 2013 2:01 pm

This is a topic that came up on a thread called "Thoughts on Archery," but I thought it deserved it's own thread and poll because of the importance of the topic!

If it is true that ammo will be infinite for archery I believe it makes archery less effective and less true to the Elder Scrolls experiences of the past.

In PvP it is a serious issue because there is a big difference in having your archers being able to use infinite ammo or running out of arrows and having to charge in like the rest of the ground forces.

Personally, I think that arrows should be able to be crafted and modified by enchanters (albeit only by certain special arrow enchanting spells).

Using ammo for archery is a great way to enhance and limit the effectiveness of archery at the same time. Ex) Let's say you are an archer with 10 Daedric arrows, you could use your ammo to do the most damage and then join the melee fray. I think limited ammo will encourage the archers to join the melee fray once in a while and not stay a purely ranged character.

Thoughts?

Craft a magical quiver with infinite arrows and buffing properties yes. Having to craft arrows that keep running out? ...No.

Why penalize the archers for playing? Mages regenerate magicka, melee regenerates stamina, archers can't be the only play-style where you actually have to pay, especially if it's underpowered. It discourages the player from playing for fun and is a large annoyance. With limited and rare arrows, archery will become useless and no one will use it. I'm fine with different arrow types, as long as we never run out.

The point is that eventually you woul be able to craft really good arrows that do more damage, but the limiting factor will be that you only have a certain supply of them and maybe the crafting materials for say a "hawk-feathered dragon bone arrow" would be hard to come by, but worth it for the damage and other special abilities they might give. How bout arrows that when fired put the enemy to sleep 1 second or 2 (assuming they are not immune to sleep spels, or poisons etc . . .)

If arrows were infinite, I would be okay with being able to craft quivers that give buffing properties to the arrows that you use. For example, you could have an elven quiver, an ebony quiver, a daedric quiver . . . which give progressively more bonuses to the ammo that you use.

Another question, though, if arrows are infinite . . . Should the type of ammo you use be dependent on bow you equip, or should it be dependent on the ammo you have (i.e. If I use a steel bow should if use steel tipped arrows, or could I used a steel bow with iron arrows etc . . . ?"

in WoW I played hunter from release until the release of Cata... one thing I hated that they got rid of was Arrows... I missed working towards the best arrows in the game and missed the feel of "Ok I need to restock before I get any lower" once they removed that I felt part of my hunter died.

I really hope we have to stock up on arrows in TESO

If quivers are unique, then the type of arrow should be dependant on the type of quiver. If bows and quivers are tied together, then the arrow should be the same type as the bow. It wouldn't make sense otherwise.

I disagree. Them getting rid of arrows was what prompted me to play a hunter.

I'd suggest the equipped bow gives raw damage properties, and the quiver you equip gives the enhancements (like fire or lightning damage, or poison, etc).

Are you saying that if arrows were not infinite in TESO you would stay away from archery?

Yes, I guess it depends on if bows and quivers are tied to together or if they are totally different commodities, and if arrows are finite or infinite, there are a lot of different variables here :D

i would however like the arrow weight to be zero or very close to zero with a special inventory slot so it doesnt waste space

Weight doesn't matter in TESO. Inventory is slot-based, not weight-based. Also arrows are infinite.

i guess a compromise can bea a thing, That you have limit nr of ammo for good ones and after that you have a unlimetid nr of crapy iron/stone arrows after that,
