Infinite Quests?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 7:57 pm

Okay I may be a bit of a slow poke but I just found this online.

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/11/skyrim-infinite-quests/

Is this confirmed yet or near confirmed? If true... IMMENSE. A lot of games have tried to do similar things to this but I am very intrigued to find out how Bethesda have gone about it.

I hope the procedural quests aren't completely lame and boring, but to be honest, they sound like they might be. I suppose, even if that ends up being the case, it still gives you *some* sort of role-play reason to keep doing things. In Oblivion, I found that once I'd completed pretty much all the quests, even though I was free to keep delving into dungeons, there seemed little point. I was rich, had all the equipment I could want, the world was saved, and there seemed no "motivation" for my character to keep going (well, mods help, of course).

It's just a little something extra for those players who put in hundreds of hours after completing the main quest. I'm sure it'll get repetitive eventually, but it is something new and shiny with which to play :)

I'm thinking it's true, but not necessarily as impressive as it sounds. Probably a "Little Timmy got captured by bandits! Again!" scenario where random characters will have random conflicts with other random characters.

I'm curious how limitless Brotherhood assassinations would work though, without wiping out a large portion of the world's NPCs.

Edit: A good comparison would probably be the vigilante/most wanted missions in GTA games, that are generic but limitless.

I'm thinking it's more like 'go here and get me this item' - 'go give this to such and such person' - 'escort such and such here'

Either way, I'm gonna dig it.

Well, technically it's impassible to have infinite quests. So no, you will run out. But lmao, not in a long ass time.

I too think its true, read something like this before for the factions, seems they did the same for random people in the world.

Good thing if you ask me, it wont give u less content it just adds more to whatever was there. Why not playing some less exciting quests if you done all the normal exciting ones.
Besides some people really like gathering stuff, like the quests add :).

I'm not thrilled by generated quests. But I think Mr. Howard makes a fair point in saying that it's more about the things you encounter on the way.

It makes sense to have this system...they have "jobs" you can do now, and it's not like people would ever stop needing you to chop wood or mine, so why not bandit hunting or thievery? It's likely not going to be as detailed as side quests (obviously...no speech I'm thinking either), but squeezing more game out of this title? Hell yeah! I wanted this feature in Oblivion (especially for the Brotherhood, ;) )

Well according to the article, they will pretty much be, "go here and get this many of that" but it does it in a way which forces you to head into new areas you haven't discovered yet. Which will probably lead you to proper quests. Sounds good to me! I hate wondering for hours and just going around in circles.

Yes, the way I look at it is like RDR's random events, except better.

It's completely possible via random generation and recycling of voice acting, they just won't be very exciting quests.

That's a really simple problem - the quest just generates new NPCs for you as assassination targets, instead of having you assassinate the 'main' static NPCs like shopkeepers.
