Ingame console isn't working

Post » Tue Dec 21, 2010 8:36 am

I can't open the console in Fallout NV, I've already tried all the buttons on my keyboard......no reaction.
Trying to start with the "-console" parameter also didn't help.
I have the steam-version of the game, running on windows 7 - 64 bit.

thanks for all answers

You can try this fix
Open up your FalloutPrefs(Back up first) located where your saves are and search for this line

bAllowConsole=

If the number after the equal sign is 0, change it to 1 save your change and ignore the rest of my post, if it is at 1 then search for these two lines

iConsoleTextYPos =940
iConsoleTextXPos=30

And change it to

iConsoleTextYPos=940
iConsoleTextXPos=200

Save your file and run New vegas.

didn't work. I think the problem is that the console isn't even showing up so repositioning it doesn't fix anything. Thanks for trying to help thou... mine was already at 1 and i changed the numbers you recommended so nothing fixed yet.

You can also try changing the iConsoleTextYPos and the iConsoleTextXPos inside the Fallout_default.ini located in the install directory. Because of Steam, it sometimes overwrites the ini file in saves directory whenever you launch the game with the launcher. Editing the Fallout_default.ini should make the changes stick.

But what's the default key to open the console? Which key should I press?

I know it's a silly question, but you're not hitting "shift" before hitting the " ` " key right? Most people just say "~" because it's easier to read than " ` ".

Also- what language keyboard are you using? If it is not US English than it may be a different key. The key is different for some language version keyboards.

After a bit of research on Mr. Internet, you can also try this
If you have a Vista,Media Center, or Windows 7,and you have a remote sensor, it should be removed. It has been known to cause problems

If that didn't work, you probably have an infrared one built in. Look in the "Device Manager" in the control panel and try to find it then disable it. This occurs mostly in laptops.

Also if you are using a gamepad, the console will not open . So you will need to disable your controller in the settings menu temporarily, then reenable it when you are finished with the console.

Bingo. This was the same exact problem that Fallout 3 had.
Interesting they're bringing old problems in new games.

I tried every trick described on internet: wiki, forums etc.
I had same problem in Oblivion and Fallout 3.
This one havn't been mentioned anywhere: If you have a PS/2 keyboard available, start windows with it plugged instead of your USB keyboard. USB keyboard with PS/2 adapter doesnt work.
