My Inner Grammar Nazi demands I bring this up and I dare not

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 4:48 pm

"Horde" and "hoard" are not the same thing. While they both generally refer to a quantity of objects, they have different applications. "Hoard" refers to inanimate objects, while "horde" refers to creatures. In other words, just to keep this Skyrim-centered to avoid getting moved or locked, if you fight your way through a bunch of bandits and take their stash of potions, then you have fought through a horde of bandits and taken their hoard of potions.

Got it? The Grammar Nazi is here to serve. ;)

I'm, sorry, but...what does this have to do with Skyrim? Why did you feel the need to come to the SKYRIM board to tell us a difference between two words that most of us probably already know?

I'll keep those definitions in mind for the next time I want to pretend I'm smart on the internet.

Thanks. Now go away unless you have a reference in Skyrim that this refers to.

lol

I just see people using the words interchangeably, and they seem to get used a lot here. Besides, I gave Skyrim-centric examples to make my point! Man, some people... :P

i find the word nazi offensive!

How? I mean, technically, Nazism is just a political party. That would be like me saying "I find the word Republican offensive!".

Just know how bad that hurt me to type in such poor grammar; I was aching to edit it, but I forced myself to wait for a reply. :P

I've been on other boards where this would have been more relevant. Like one discussing dragon hoards.

Interesting that you would feel compelled to post about that when some of the posts on this board are so badly written it's virtually impossible to figure out what the writer wanted to say. Other then the fact that he was illiterate I suppose.

I was rather disappointed that Skyrim dragons don't keep a hoard of gold and jewelry. Nor captive princesses. :(

I can be quite pedantic but really the OP needs to remember that not every member here has English as their first language.

The pedant in me also needs to point out that correcting other members' use of English and pointing out spelling errors etc. is against the rules here and I predict that this thread will be locked.

In other words, get off your high horse.

Screw hoards and princesses, I'd rather see [censored]d princesses.

Grammar thread, had to. Don't hate me.

EDIT: BAH it's censored my beautiful play on words! Damn you politically correct America!
