Install the game to your hardrive

Make your PS3 or 360 happy and install the game to the HDD. It will be much happier and run smoother.

Who doesn't know this? The Xbox is 6 years old. If you own an Xbox and aren't aware of this, you deserve a RROD.

Installation is mandatory for most PS3 games. I imagine Skyrim will be no different.

I install every 360 game I buy.

You downloaded it off a DAMAGED disc.

I think this alone explains itself -.-

Downloading to the harddrive, doesn't fix anything if the source was already damaged.

My current XBox has had the RRoD many times. Occasionally it'll stay on for weeks at a time. And it keeps running through it all. :)

Does anyone happen to know the file size of Skyrim? I doubt anyone would. Just curious. Rage took me 4 hours to download.

My guess is anywhere from 6 to 10 gigs. Oblivion was seven I believe?

Someone apparently doesn't know how CD's store data on their disc. Someone also doesn't know how the Cd uses its outer clear layer as nothing but a lens to fracture data on the disc when being read from a laser.

Someone, I don't know who though.

First, you don't download games from a disc. You download games from the internet or from a network. You install games from a disc. Let's get the terminology right to eliminate confusion please.

Second, installing the game to your hard drive will have several benefits:
1) The game will load faster.
When you enter a cave, house, dungeon, etc and the loading screen comes up, it will load faster.

2) Less wear and tear.
Anyone who knows anything about mechanics knows that the less moving parts, the longer the life cycle of the machine. When you install the game to you XBOX hard drive, the disc doesn't need to spin (so less moving parts).

3) Convenience/security.
If you install the game to your hard drive, and scratch the disc the next day, the game will probably still work perfectly fine. It's a security blanket.

I work on the infrastructure (networking) team at a large international corporation. I work with users on a daily basis to keep their machines (and networks) up-and-running.

Put the game in the disk but don't start it up just yet. From the dashboard go to My Xbox. You will see the option to start the game by pushing "A", instead push "Y" for details. From there you can see the option to install the game.

It'll be going on my PC's SSD! :D :P

But really, if you're on console, definitely do this. Load times will be much shorter.
