Instant Death to your character

I don't know about any of the percentages. But when it comes to Briarhearts, I just know I need to be prepared to use everything at my disposal in order to survive. Even on high levels it'll often take a follower + atronauch/Dremora Lord + Paralyze in order to kill them. They're tough enemies.

How does blocking come into play? If you've got a shield up and are near full health, can the Briarheart still decimate you? Is this result affected by how much %block your shield has? Sorry none of my characters are currently in a position to test this.

You never get the chance to block, because the determination that a kill-move occurs happens before your defenses are taken into account. As a result, all it compares against is your total HP, so if the attack's damage exceeds that number, you're toast. Since it has already determined that you got one-shotted, it locks out your controls and plays the appropriate animation sequence, so you are unable to react in any way.

Maybe at that level the Braveheart had his perks up and did a critical hit on you.

I recall taking on a bandit boss and after two hits my head goes flying across the room. I was shocked for two reasons, first being I didn't know they could do decap death animations to the PC, second was that I was nearly full health when it happened.

blocking the attack with a shield smack interupts their attack

and that gives you a chance against them.

but yeah briarhearts, bandit bosses and deathlords

can beat the snot out of you in the blink of an eye.

i just took out the briarheart at hags end with this blocking technique

everytime that his arm went back he got a shield in the face. LOL
