Interacting with Display Cases crashes the game?

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 8:21 pm

Anyone else run into this?

Whenever I interact with, or even look at the two large display cases in the Greenhouse wing, my game freezes up.

None of the other large ones act up, even with items in them.

no because you can't put nothing in those display cases that's a bug and people have been having issues where certain wings won't coexist and the game keeps freezing up.....you might have to reload an earlier save and rebuild the house from scratch

I dont have this issue but something that is annoying is that when you get the display cases you can never put anything in them neatly, like i want to put weapons in them n stuff and i have to manually pock them up and put them in and it can be very fiddly and annoying

The display cases work fine in the two greenhouses I have.

Heljarchen Hall
green house, alchemy tower, kitchen

Lakeview Manor
greenhouse, alchemy tower, kitchen

How many bees do you have flying around the house?

No bees, and no one in the house for now either. Just two open display cases that can't be further interacted with.

Yes indeed. I have cleared my cache, but haven't deleted/re-installed any add-ons or the game itself.

Do you have a save where you can rebuild the house again? It could be a glitch introduced by not furnishing the room in one go. Usually things just do not turn up, but you never know with Bethesda what sort of strange glitch is going to turn up unexpected. It is not something many experience so it has to be something unusual you have done. Although I had no trouble with the greenhouse in Lakeview myself, some did have serious problems with that house. If it is Lakeview that is doing it and you do decide to rebuild the house, maybe try a different wing there.

Not me. However, I was expecting to use them like Weapon Racks/Plaques. I mean, you target the lid seperately, so why not? Atleast make that an option.

They have had it as an option in the main game all the time, but you notice they take the option to activate it away, people complain they cannot use them. It was only ever an option, you could always manually put whatever you wanted in the display cases, provided you could get it to actually stay in there. For the DLC they are forcing the player to learn to actually use the display cases, they want the player to be a bit more creative in using them.

Keep telling yourself that, mate.

They aren't user friendly in any way or form. Then there's the whole drop items>exit house>re enter house malarkey that has plagued the game since its release. That's not merely encouraging the player to be creative, that's bad physics. It becomes a chore.

My game also freezes, but its when I try to activate a workbench. Its only just started happening lately, but its preventing from finishing my Falkreath manor.Unfortunately I don`t have the luxury of multiple saves,so I guess i`m stuck until Bethesda decide to do something about the problem.

Did you try removing all the workbenches and then only adding the one you need. Might be an idea to go over to the outside workbench as if you were going to build a wing, then going to the newly installed inside workbench. And do not let the thing fool you into building multiple versions of things you have already built, the workbench list will often reset or lose what it is you need to build. Exit the menu and try again if it does that to you. Rebuilding everything so much cannot be good for your game, and is certainly not good for your level of building supplies.

I heard it was something to do with the mannequins. I had my first hard freeze today and it happened just as I was entering lakeside where the previous visit, I kitted out the mannequin for the first time. Did some research into the freezing issue and seems others are thinking its to do with the mannequins and possibly the dupe glitch.

^^ Not for me. I haven't touched a single mannequin inside Lakeview (armory, cellar, etc) and my console has frozen brick-solid about eight times.

I think it's just the presence of the mannequins, plus all the hundreds of other interactive scripts in one place. There's a code war going on inside Hearthfire and my Xbox is the primary casualty.
