PC interface and controllers

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 4:41 am

I wanted to know other peoples opinions on this issue. With Oblivion, the xbox360 controller was, in my opinion, more fun to use than the keyboard and mouse. However, it was only partially compatible with the pc version. You still had to use the mouse for the interface. There was a mod that helped a little, but it was all a bit sloppy. I play on the 360 and the PC and love the PC modding community, but much prefer the 360 controls, so I would like to see skyrim's pc version have full compatibility with the 360 controller; not the sloppy half-compatibility that came with Oblivion. This would completely seal the deal for me for buying this game for the pc, especially with the graphics being virtually the same on pc and console.

So what do you guys think? Would you rather use the mouse and keyboard, or would you also like the option to play properly with a controller?

Edit: added a "don't care" option.

if Skyrim is a "Games for Windows" (not to be confused with "Games for Windows LIVE") title the 360 controller should be compatible with it.

Oblivion wasn't a "Games for Windows" title

While I would personally use a mouse & keyboard, I have no issue with the option to use a gamepad on the PC version as long as the mouse & keyboard doesn't suffer because of it.

Since both Fallout games supported it, I'd say it will be in. Not that I would prefer it to good old board and mouse. ^_^

I hope so. I like the mouse and board for games like Diablo and Dragon Age, but I really enjoy the combat of Oblivion and (to a much lesser extent) Morrowind better with joysticks and buttons. And from what GI is telling us about the combat system, I think it'll be great with the Xbox360 controller in my hand.

Do I want it? No.

I wouldn't have any problem if it were included, though.

I agree completely, I am pretty sure it will be compatible because it seems like every multiplatform game that has come out recently has, including Fallout.

You know what ? The last 2 years I only play with keyboard & mouse at the PC,and with motion controls at Wii.
I stopped playing xbox360 because most of it's games also come out to the PC,and at PC they are somewhat cheaper and I can make the graphics somewhat better with Antialiasing.
I recentely tried to play games with the xbox360 controller but guess what ?
I get used to keyboard&mouse controls so much that I get unused at gamepad controls, and when I grab a controller now on my hands I feel the same way I felt when I started playing with keyboard&mouse, that being confused and having to pause a game to see where the buttons are.

I think that gamepad controls for the hardcoe pc gamer will be unnecessery.
But there are people who play games at consoles and might want to play this one at PC for a change.
So let it be.

Yes. Joypad support should be included in any pc game where it would make sense if you ask me.

And "IF" i buy Skyrim for the PC, you can be sure i'll be using a joypad if the game gives me the option.

I have traditionally played TES games on console (Morrowind on the original Xbox and Oblivion on 360). However, now that I have a gaming computer, I may as well make the jump to PC (plus mods would be nice). In case I don't like the controls for the mouse and keyboard, a 360 controller port would be nice (probably will be possible considering it's Microsoft).

Customizable controls are a good thing. It's just a pity the default drivers for the Xbox 360 controller are so abysmal. (I mean really, L and R are treated as one axis? Terrible.)

Of course, using controllers just adds the extra challenge of role-playing a character with Parkinsons.

I hope they include it. It would be nice to have the best of both worlds (kick back with a simple controller while playing a heavily modded file).

I dislike joypads, but I wouldn't deny the people who do like them access.

So I don't care.

"Don't care"

I only use my X360 controller for racing and fighting games on my PC. For everything else, it just feels more natural to use mouse+keyboard.

I want a PC UI that takes advantages of the keyboard and mouse. I don't care if it works with controllers or not.

I could see a Xbox 360 controller connection seeing as how it's a Game for Windows but PS3 depends.

The more options the better. I'm 20 so I've always gone down the console route becuase it's cheaper. Now I'm old enough to get a decent job and possibly buy a good PC. I'd love the mods but I'd want full controller compatability, and that means adjusted menus, anologue running speed, hold support, etc. It'd be the best of both worlds to me, and wouldn't affect the K+M user as long proper interfaces were included for both.

Even if it isn't supported you can usually use xpadder or joy2key to make each button on the controller simulate the key for what you want it to do. I play tons of old console games with my xbox controller.
