PC Interface is TOTALLY fine

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 10:50 am

I picked up Skyrim for PC today, knowing all about the UI problems people are experiencing...I've experienced none of them. The mouse works perfectly fine in all menus, even the character creation screen, it's quite intuitive, and very similar, with a few exceptions, to Oblivion. I'm really quite comfortable with it and have had no problems.

I really think that there are two possibilities for the problems people are having on PC:

1. RTFM. I'm willing to bet that most of the problems people are having is because they are not reading the manual. Reading is hard.

2. A problem with YOUR particular setup / user error. If the game works fine for me, but not for you, then it's likely a problem with YOUR set up. That does NOT mean that Bethesda is off the hook, if there is a problem with a particular combination of hardware, then they need to work that out and figure out a patch or workaround, but it's NOT lousy bug testing, a careless port, hatred for PC players, etc.

Let's please tone the hysteria down a bit and take in the possibility that it might be you, not the game with the issues!

Flame away.... :flamethrower:

Totally fine? No, not at all.

Playable? Yes.

Bethesda should've done better? Also yes.

P.s. you're a tool. "It works fine for me so you must all be wrong and stupid." Lovely.

I dont have a problem with it.. I can navigate the menus just fine. Sure I would like a UI tailored for PC but the current isnt so bad to warrant all of the complaining.

The interface functions just fine. I just think it's designed terribly. They wasted a huge amount of screen space with every menu option.

This is a troll thread. No real PC gamer would say the PC UI is fine. The UI wouldn't be fine even if it worked with the mouse properly.

The interface is definitely not as bad as many people are making it out to be. It does have some problems, it's got some bugs, but it works and it's a lot better than Oblivion's default interface. It's certainly not a game-breaker.

I agree, but do NOT say "true PC gamer" because that makes you look like a troll

Why are you lying...?

Uh...hmmm...well...oh never mind.

Like I'm going to spend my energy on lying about a game.

Seriously, it's totally fine for me. If you are having problems I'm sorry, but it's NOT the game, because it works perfectly for me. It's a compatability issue with your setup and the game, or user error, period. Not trying to be insulting, it's just reality.

If it's a problem with hardware compatability, then Beth needs to issue a patch, but it's NOT an overarching issue with the design, it's a tech issue that needs to be worked out, at worst.

first time playing a game like this and while the interface could be a lot better, I didn't have any issues with it. I would rather see all my inventory at once using little icons rather than a list though. It would look better and be faster

"i didnt have any issues with it"

followed by a list of issues you had with it.... ?

It's a compatability issue with your setup and the game

because it works perfectly for me.

You're the dumbest person I have ever seen on these forums.

Look at my join date. I've been on these forums for 6 years. You really think I'm trolling? :brokencomputer:

I'm just trying to reassure PC users that whatever problems are being reported are setup specific, not an overarching problem with the game.

As for the design of the UI, that is a different question than the functionality of the UI. It functions 100% properly for me. Are there some design changes that I might make? Possibly...I've only played for a few hours so far, but I'm pretty much fine with the UI.

Please keep in mind that an opinion on a UI design choice is different than a non-functioning UI. We are discussing the functionality of the UI in this thread, not the design.

The UI works for me.

It doesn't work for about 50% of the other people.

YEAH IT'S CLEARLY THEIR OWN FAULT! :D

I did not say it was their own fault. I said it's EITHER a compatibility issue between their particular hardware setup and the software, OR user error. If it's a setup specific issue, yes Beth needs to work it out, but it's NOT an inherent problem with the game, it's just a tech issue.

Now I remember why I don't post much here, it's like a grade school playground.

I completely agree with the OP. The UI is totally fine and nowhere near what most posts claim it to be. It's very usable and aside from missing some conveniences such as item comparison or hotkeys for inventory, it's not bad at all. In fact, I don't mind it one bit.

I'm sure others have legitimate problems with the UI. However it's working perfectly well for me also, I'm really enjoying playing it with mouse & keyboard.

Is the UI usable and fairly easy to understand, once you use it for more than about five minutes? Yes.
Could Bethesda have taken advantage of the fact that the PC version will be played by the overwhelming majority of people using a mouse and keyboard to make it better? Yes.

The PC version's UI is not atrociously bad, but it could have been better.
