A few years ago I bought a 360 in order to play Oblivion. I live in France but I had ordered the game from the UK so I could play it in English (which I prefer). On the Xbox Live side, I was asked for my real telephone number and address, as well as my credit card details, which I provided. Everything was fine until I finished the main quest and bought a couple of game extensions. The files downloaded thru Xbox Live were the French ones (selecting another language was impossible), and even worse, they modified the game so that (seemingly) half of the interface and dialog was changed into French, too. It was a huge mess. I couldn't recognize the game I had just spent several weeks with.
Since I didn't need the console anymore I gave it to a friend. Being one of the first models, the 360 has since died a natural death with a full ring of red light.
Now Skyrim is out. I'd like to buy one of the new, more reliable 360s but I'd very much like to keep the entire machine operating in English, downloading English extensions and extras, while still living in France.
I'd like to know a couple of things:
1. Has the localisation behavior changed in the 2 or 3 years? Or is the downloaded material's language still imposed on the user by his or her location?
2. Is it any different with the PS3? I really wouldn't mind getting that instead of the 360 if it allows me to do what I described above.
Thanks a lot for your help.
