Interracial Marriage (In Skyrim)

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:58 pm

So how common is it for an elf to marry a human? I'm asking this because I want to see if it's lore friendly for a Dunmer to marry an Imperial or a Breton. Or how will procreation work between two races with different physical and biological characteristics?

I't does not say anything in the Lore about that kind of thing. In my opinion i think it wouldn't work out. All the races have major differences in personality and religion .

There are a few high elf women married to nords in Skyrim. It isn't uncommon, and is socially accepted within the Empire but is often looked down upon by others due to racism.

Isn't there a dude in one of the cities which states the mother decides what the child is?

The child is the same race as the mother...

It's pretty common, I'm thinking, or at least not unheard of. It would have to be common in Skyrim, considering how rare marriagable characters of certain races are (in game).

It'd be especially common among the adventuring set, I'm thinking. While most people probably hardly ever leave the village they were born in and thus default to someone of their own race (and likely family line... second cousins if not first...), adventurers would meet a considerably wider variety of people and likely marry someone of a different race. And unlike traveling merchants and nobles, they wouldn't even have to worry as much about what such a move would do to their reputations.

You must be new to TES or don't read many books.

At least 2 races are descendants of both man and mer. Also there's a few ingame. There's a few kings/jarls you can read about. There's also a war just because a king/jarl had a dunmer queen.

Also when lets say a male dunmer gets with... Let's say a argonian female the child will be argonian. Or a human gets with a altmer female. The child will be altmer.

Offhand I can think of several elf-human couples in the game. Two different farm couples, and there's Bolli and his Bosmer wife in Riften.

Karliah and Gallus of the Thieves Guild were close (if you catch my drift). Would've probably married if Mercer hadn't killed Gallus.

Bretons are actually Half-elves, but I'm not sure if Human-races can breed with other species like Argonians/Khajit/Orcs. I'm guessing Mer races can breed with Human and other Mer races, and beast races can only breed with themselves. Besides, why haven't we seen more crossbreeds like Bretons?

There are some humorous mods out there that allow you to marry characters like Ulfric and Sanguine, and even dragons (With Argonian voices)...

Children are always the race of their mother. In lore, there has been six between beast races and elves. I don't know if it's possible for pregnancy to result, though. If a Khajit male and a Dunmer female did have a child it would be a Dunmer, so maybe it's possible.

Edit: Technically modern Bretons are humans.

According to a note in their house, he had her followed and she was sleeping around with a lot of men. So, yeah. lol

Men can indeed breed with Orcs. Orcs are basically just ugly elves, and the Grey Prince was the product of an Orc mother and an Imperial father. They can also...erm..."mate" with Khajiit, though I don't know if they can actually have children. Don't know if Argonian anatomy is compatible. They might have lizard parts.

So I don't think inter-racial marriage is uncommon, but it might be frowned upon by some, or kept quiet out of fear of being..uh..frowned upon.

I know there's a reference to someone sleeping with an Argonian somewhere else, too. The Wolf Queen, I think.

You'd think that a human and Argonian would lead to some chafing issues for the human.
