Invent an Artifact or Item that would make sense in the Elde

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 4:36 am

Pretty much the title. Just make up an item that would make sense for the Elder Scrolls universe and give it small description of what it does(keep it pretty vague if possible) and a little backstory.

Alansa's Ring- A ring that gives a small but noticeable boost to someones magical abilities. Thought to be the creation of Alansa, a wizardess of some renown prior to the rise of the Mages guild. Supposedly it was made to help a lost Altmer mage get home. Where that home or who the Altmer was is unknown.

Stormsinger- An enchanted blade of a powerful ancient Nordic tongue, that seems to bleed lightning and summon a small storm around the bearer when the runes on the blade are sung in battle, was won on the field of battle during the Dunmers many conflicts with the Skyrim Empire in the 1st era. It was handed down the minor Indobar House's line up until it reached Neveril Indobar. One of the Hands of Almalexia. After that it was given to his son Amaraz Indobar shortly after the fall of the Tribunal and the Red Year. Amaraz came to be known as the Minstrel of Storms as he became a minor Hero to a beleaguered Dunmer people in the 4th Era. His name was obviously a derivative of his penchant to scream in battle and summon lightning to his aid. Amaraz lost Stormsinger sometime around the events of Skyrim's Civil War and the Year of Dragons. Rumors of screaming warriors encased in storms have arisen in recent times.

Akatosh's favor-an amulet/ring that when worn makes all dragons friendly, they no longer attack on sight but aid you if you're in danger when they're around

Orb of the traveller-when used it will teleport (fast travel) you to anywhere you mark on the map, not just discovered locations

Dragon Axe - This battle axe was created during the Skyrim civil war from th bones of a dragon. A hero brought the bones to the mastersmith Eorlund Grey-Mane who crafted a mighty weapon. The fires of the Skyforge infused the weapon with the ability to inflcut fire damage to the wielder's enemies.

I could probably give it a better name, but I can't be bothered right now. Inspired by some of the weapons from the Tamriel Lore book.

Mudcrab's Regalia- Armor that for very mysterious reasons is impervious to all forms of damage. Nothing can penetrate this armor. However there are gaps in the armor that leave ALL the major internal organs exposed. When worn the user can breath underwater and is protected by enchantments on par with the most powerful of items. Except where there are gaps.

Mundane Sword- Despite its name this is probably one of the most powerful weapons one could get their hands on. A necromancer captured the soul of one of the most bland and uninteresting people that ever existed in the entirety of Mundus's existence. Theoretically the sword operates by making things it gets in contact with so mundane that they just cannot withstand the inherently simple enchanted Iron sword.

Stick with a pointy thing at the end, I think i will call it Spear
Small sharp thing that you can throw, I think I will call it Throwing Knife
Stick, I think I will call it Quarterstaff.
Log with hilt, I think I will call it Club.

oh and as for a back-story, some of the earliest and most used weapons of all time.

Blessed Sweetroll Of The Eternal Return

When eaten, restores over 9000 points of Health, Stamina, and Badassedness and then immediately reappears whole and untouched in its owner's possession. If stolen will leave a permanent residue of sticky crumbs in perpetrator's pocket and once again return whole and untouched to its owner, but only after passing Helgen and collecting 200 septims. Causes lesser undead to flee in fear that its calories will probably go straight to their hips. May cause guards to lose their train of thought in the middle of a snarky comment. Gives Arnbjorn toothaches.

Ring of the 12 Bellies - There once was a very big Orc during the 2nd Era. Very big and tall he could carry anything from swords to axes, potions and plants. He also ate alot of Scrib Jelly. It said that the magical powers came from the jelly. His body was found dead in a cave near Elden Root, he was carring 2 Scrib Jelly and the ring .. to his left hand he was holding a bone pipe. A favorite of the Bosmer.

Effect - Carry loot as long as you feed it Magicka Potions, Food or Ingrident's. For example: A Magicka Potion that heals 24 points is added to your carrry limit (24). The same goes for Food like a Green Apple restores 2 Health Points (2) etc.

Septim Cost - 1200

A staff that has a similar effect to the pillar of sacrifice in the Boethiah quest, you cast it and the enemies will rise from the floor with their chests pushed out. You then get absorb stamina, health and magicka from all the enemies in the staffs reach, which is around 2-3x the distance of the flames spell and as wide as a city gate (such as Whiterun).

The staff is 2 handed (to stop you just attacking with the other hand) and weighs 25. Has a magnitude of 1/4 of your level for the absorb health/stamina/magicka effect, so at level 40 you absorb 10 of each per second. If you have full magicka/health/stamina it slowly gets stronger and doubles in power after 10 seconds, then triples after 20, then finally quadruples after 30 seconds. It leaves you slightly disorientated for around 5 seconds after using it, 20 seconds if you didn't kill anyone using it.

The staff has a huge charge level which replenishes after killing, but it hungers for death, if you don't kill someone after one day it loses 1/3 of its charge. You make the choice to wield this staff, when in your inventory and it's charge falls to zero you have a constant small drain health/magicka/stamina effect applied to you with 0% regeneration for all three, you can still use it at charge level zero.

The staff is obtained via a quest, the staff is split into 3 parts which you have to find:
-The first part is brought from a neutral mage, with a hefty price of 35000, who lives hidden in a secluded cave high up on the mountains. When you first meet him he knows exactly what you're after and tells you if you kill him you will never find it. Which is true, if you kill him you lose the chance to obtain the staff.
-The second part is found at the end of a deep long dungeon enhabited by various dremora, full of traps (some able to kill you regardless of health or armor rating) and areas that drop you back to the start with a wrong step. Involving ancient puzzles that actually require logic and extensive thinking to solve.
-The final piece is found deep in a mages lair, full of enemy levelled mages and a boss level mage at the end. The boss level mage has the last piece of the staff, but near the end of a lengthy battle a scripted event occurs in which he paralyses you and takes the two pieces of the staff. He then forges the staff out of the three pieces and you are set free for the staffs first kill. You then have to fight him again, avoiding the staffs effect (which is weak due to the staff rejecting him) and claim the staff for yourself. The battle is more about skill than your equipment, it's a challenge at all levels.

I haven't got a name or history for the staff yet, I think I've wrote enough for now ha

Dwemer Cogitator. Created in some long-forgotten trouble between the Deep Ones and the Snow Elves, this device is an attempt to meld the power of a Dwemer construct with the will of a living warrior, and to help that warrior against swifter and more agile enemies while retaining the defensive capabilities of Dwemer metal armour.
If this helm is worn with a full suit of Dwarven armour, the wearer is granted increased awareness, as the unfathomable array of cogs and springs calculates enemy positions, and relays the predictions to the wearer via a 'soul array', a device which 'speaks' to the wearer, but must be recharged every 24 hours with a petty soul of higher.

The effects are increased chance of critical hits with all weapons, an improvement to slow time shouts, steady hand and quick reflexes effectively slow the enemy more, and stamina loss from power attacks and bashes is 20% less.

Only one such device was ever created, as the recharging was deemed inefficient compared to using souls to power constructs.

The Brass God's Break - An ancient Dwemer device that articulates a centurion frequency that causes Dwemer Constructs to perceive you as one of their own. In other words they will see you as an ally and attack anything that is hostile to you.
