AI isn't very good

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 4:19 am

Just jump on a rock and watch melee NPCs stare at you. Then when they start to run off (to find a path?)... just jump off the rock, ledge, or whatever, and then watch them start to come after you again. Then jump back on the rock. Rinse and repeat until you kill the NPC with magic or arrows.

Solution? Jumping. This is the year 2011 and the AI can't jump? Seriously? At least give them some basic jumping ability so they'll be able to jump up on the 1 foot tall rock that you're casting spells from.

The AI makes all the NPCs in the world to do whatever they are doing. In most games it is done purely with scripting, i wouldnt call it bad, it just lacks in some areas.

No.

Yeah ya did. <_<

My main complaint with the AI is how they'll just randomly teleport to one side. You'll have a shot all lined up and POOF your target is now 20m to the right instead of still moving left. Totally cheating.

Then don't play cheap then. Unless your talking about animals, Humans should be shooting arrows at you if your high up.

that I discovered last night, ruined a stealth mission for me because of that.

On to topic, something else I notice, get a certain distance away from where you found an enemy he'll stop chasing you and walk away. But if you move back close to him he'll turn and come back until a certain point and turn around again.

They run away when you are perched on an unreachable location, because they'd otherwise just be fodder for your arrows. The only problem I have with that is that they don't "remember" where you were after their aggro drops without you in sight for long enough.

The AI is a lot better than you realize.

The AI in Oblivion was worse, especially regarding reactions to stealth attacks. In Skyrim, they at least go on alert and even figure out where you're at if you're too close or if you don't change position or distract them; in Oblivion, they'd just take it and not even react.
