Item Movement: Really not up to par now

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:03 am

I can't remember what the item movement was like in Oblivion, but it certainly seemed like it wasn't too bad.

The same cannot in any way be said for the item movement in Skyrim. I can't even turn a bucket, a flipping BUCKET, the right way up using the current method. There's no control, no...anything! You just have to flail it around and pray that stuff goes where you want it to! It wasn't so much an issue before, but with a house to customise in Hearthfire, this just highlights how utterly poor the system is.

Am I the only one thinking this?

Yeah, they should implement a function so you can tilt an item your grabbing in any axis you want, sort of like how Halo Reach does it in Forge mode, that would make life so much easier.

Or if they can't add an advanced editing feature, they could at least make items automatically turn the right way. As you said with the bucket, why does it turn upside down naturally :swear:

Or better yet, use the system from Morrowind, everything gets put perfectly wherever you want.

In Oblivion when you held something couldn't you rotate it? God I miss those days

It truly is a giant pain in the ass. I have so many awesome things that I want to display, but it takes forever to get it set right on the stupid display cases that it kind of isn't even worth it.

At least items stay in place when you put them in your house now. I tried it out with a troll skull and it was still on the shelf when I got back.

Nice. That alone worth 5 bucks to me.

How about dead bodies? Do they still disappear?

While we're on the topic of item placement, what the hell happened to the weapon display cases? Anybody else unable to use the option to actually put a weapon in there instead of clumsily dropping it in and tweaking it till it looks (almost) right?

Yes they completely went backwards on item movement and placement with Skyrim compared to Oblivion, you could fine tune and make minor adjustments on Oblivion quite easily. Skyrim made a complete dogs breakfast of item placement sadly and somewhat surprisingly.

To say that Oblivions placement of items was perfect would be complete BS, as I remember on PC putting books in a bookshelf was no fun with other present books on those shelfs would instantly get an electric shock when touched by newly placed books, however with Skyrim they managed to make things even worse..

It's absolutely horrible and frustrating isn't it. Hopefully it will (eventually) get fixed.

It doesn't sound like they care, people been complaining about this since launch and nothings been done about it, how much longer do we have to wait, another 6 months, a year? No, it will never get fixed v_v

The better to pop it on someone's head most likely.

I have not really got up to decorating yet, but the few things I placed have not yet flown all over the place. O was to lazy to dump them on the floor go out, come back in and place them. So maybe they have improved something? I am used to it by now, but some way of rotating and holding the item on that angle would be nice.
