Items in Caves

Post » Tue Oct 28, 2008 11:09 am

Anybody ever get frustrated when objects lie in the open, but due to the
color schemes, they blend right into the floor?

Perfect example.. was looting a cave today. And as usual, at the end of
the cave there's a dead mercenary and you think "Ok, one unique weapon
coming up!"

So I opened the sack, looted the guy, and NOTHING. I knew something wasn't
right... so I walked backwards and after some serious searching saw the
weapon. It blended in literally with the cave floor coloring, and was super
hard to spot.

As a result of this, now when I'm exploring, I tend to annoying "sweep" the
mouse everywhere, on the floor, walls, ceiling, and I go in sweeping horizontal
and vertical patterns, it's really OCD-ish but I find it's the only way to confirm
you haven't missed anything.

This is very useful in rubble/junk piles, and places where there are bobbypins
on the floor, etc. A lot of the colors of these objects just 'mesh' into the same
shapes in a lot of the floor textures. Anybody else have any other ways of
confirming a room is really "cleaned" when it really isnt?

I guess Rex's perk is good for this, but I don't use him.
I tend to have my brightness up so I can see pretty well.
Those dufflebags still look like rocks, though.

Either I don't have this problem or I'm missing a lot of items :D

What platform are you on and what sort of monitor/TV do you use?

I think HD has it pegged.

That's why a lot of console games (and I'm not bashing here—perhaps just a little snigger of superiority  ) make loot glow or flicker someway. They did that in Operation: Anchorage and it drove me nuts.

You might try game brightness or the contrast on your display. I myself never use the default brightness of any game—at least not without a white cane.

In my experience if you are using a console with a plasma screen maximum brightness and maybe slightly higher contrast is the best setting.
