items in home dont stay in home

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 7:45 pm

I bought the house in whiterun as well as all the decorations, but i like to decorate my house with items i have collected on my adventures. so i placed an ivory dragons claw and an emerald dragon claw on a table and st them up perfectly. i left the house to barter but when i came back both items were gone. items in chests were untouched though so that isn't a problem. anyone else having these issues?

I quickly bought all the furniture and tried to place stuff too. But all the books were tossed to the floor and other stuff tossed about or furniture missing when I next entered the home. I keep the shelves empty now. I lost two dogs to this house POOF! Disappeared! It must be haunted.

There is a known issue in decorating.. (or placing items).
Basically what happens is that your furniture will reset, once you leave the cell. (read: Everything re-spawns)
Practically that means: If you leave the house and have placed items, pretty good chance they will be on the floor.... or worse..
Most of the time all your hand placed items will be on the floor and it looks like someone Fus Do Raht at your items. If you leave it that.. the items will be displaced even more every time you enter the cell.
The only way to remedy this.. leave the cell. Pick up the displaced items (do not take!!) and hand place them again. Now if you leave the cell the items position (in most cases) will be fixed. (tested with bugs in a jar I collected and it works..)
What happened in your case.., probably, is that the claws are either somewhere on the floor... or you entered the house multiple times which has glitched them either in the floor or in the wall. The same issue is also happening to (working) weapon racks.. (I don't know if the same remedy applies to those btw..)

If an npc is talking to you as you go into your house they will follow you, and then leave.

Yup, this stinks. I loved manually decorating my house in Oblivion. Now it's pointless.

I managed to position a statue of Dibella perfectly on a table. It was the only thing I bothered manually placing in Breezehome. What happened when I came home from my recent adventures? Gone.

I doubt Beth even cares about something as minute as this. Look at weapon racks. They haven't worked in Breezehome for either one of my characters. I know that it's silly in comparison to many of the more serious glitches in quests and all, but it's something that I really look forward to doing in these games.

Very disappointed.

My weapon rack works fine. It's placing items on tables and decorating is what give me a pain. They are always on the floor when I come back. But I did notice items of 2+ pounds stay put.

The weapons disappearing and the exploding items is driving me crazy. I like to set up my houses as I feel they should reflect the person you are roleplaying and nothing I do has ceased the issue. I hope Bethesda addresses this in latch 1.4. Along with the save game issue...

Questions about owning multiple houses...

If the Weapon Racks in Breezehome are broken, will they be broken in any other home that I purchase as well?

Is this also true for bookshelves and mannequins? Or does this seem to be a case by case basis in-game, or across the board? I'd hate to think that I've spent all of this time saving up for Proudspire Manor in Solitude, only to find that everything in there is broken as well.

Thanks in advance. I hate that we're all dealing with these silly issues, but at least we have each other! Ha ha.

I've had this happen too, and it wasn't from a npc talking to me as there were no npc's around when I entered my house (1am). but yet here's a npc coming down the stairs in my house... its usually the beggars that end up in my houses... I always check to see if somethings missing afterwards

If you buy a house, purchase upgrades and then save before you enter the house, if the house is broken inside, reload the save and enter again, this usually fixes the issue but not all the time. Sometimes it will happen as well if there have been long hours of play, same remedy though, reloading a save prior to entering the house but after you've restarted the game. This is not a 100% fix for broken houses but it works most the time for me and I don't seem to have the problem afterwards.

One of the problems with homes seems to be, if you purchase your home and then visit it (in its unfurnished state), then decorate your home afterwards. This is what seems to cause problems with the weapon racks and bookshelves. One thing that does seem to help (although it doesn't always fix everything) is buying your home then immediately purchasing all the decorations for your home (or at least, don't visit your home before you have purchased everything).

This game should have some sort of decorating mode or something for player owned houses. I don't know if it's different of PC, but on the 360 it takes 20 minutes to place some items on a table in the way you want. A mode for placing and moving items would fix that, but as is, placing items on display seems broken.

oblivions system worked fine, idk why they had to go and change it, grabbing objects from the edge instead of the center was way easier even on consoles, and objects never moved around

I made the mistake of forgetting to search the entire forum before I posted a new topic about the Weapons Rack in the Solitude house bedroom not working. Since this thread looked like it was becoming the thread to report house interior issues, I thought I would copy it here as well. I posted this here because I got to see two separate Solitude home decorating attempts and the difference in Weapons Rack activation between the two separate times.

Here is my original post:

The first time I bought the house and decorated it completely, the weapons rack in the bedroom worked fine and I placed two swords in it. Today after running into a quest glitch with the quest called "Repentance". I decided to go back to a previous save before I entered the castle where this quest was located, but also before I decorated my house in Solitude. I was successfully able to complete the quest on the second attempt and then went back to Solitude and proceeded to rebuy all the stuff for the house.

After purchasing everything I proceeded on several more quests over several hours. Later, when I went back to the house to store some booty I discovered that the weapons rack in the bedroom no longer responded to putting the cursor on the rack. Unlike the previous time, and the larger rack downstairs, I am not prompted with the ACTIVATE option. The rack behaves like any other non active item in the house. I exited the house and came back in and still nothing. I quit the game and reloaded the save after I purchased the bedroom decorations and it still doesn't work.

I wanted to report this in the hopes that this can be fixed in a patch. After loosing all my previous progress in order to complete the broken quest, I'm not willing to do the same thing again in order to try purchasing the the house and all the interior stuff for a third time.

=============================

Since this bug has been reported at many of the houses in the game, I wanted to add that the problem appears to be random and can change each time you buy the decorations. The first time around, I didn't have enough money to do the whole house at once and added the bedroom later when I returned to the Blue Palace with more money. The second and final time i decorated the house, I had enough to do the entire house in one session and this resulted in my bedroom weapons rack not working.

Not sure if this provides a clue to the bug or not, but it could be a way around it for those who care enough to try multiple saves and attempts trying to decorate the house in different orders, and at different points in time.
