Items/people falling through floor

I know for certain that this is not an issue that came with patch 1.01, reason being is that I encountered it previously but it didn't bug me as it was something minor. I won't further embarass the beta testers or dev team by hammering on about how this was also a very similar issue with Fallout 3 and the many DLC packs too...

Just after I went into Nipton I followed the road out of town towards Wolfhorn Ranch, when I got to the truck thats got the Sunset Sarsaparilla in (just after the railway crossing) I noticed that many of the items were half burried in the ground... what was even more spooky is that some of them slowly rose up out of the ground when I got close. But a number remained in the ground, if I pressed R3 to try and pull them out, they wouldn't budge, upon pressing it again the item dropped further, it could NOT be selected, or moved.

Fortunately these were just bog standard items that you find all over the place so I thought little of it.

Then I arrived in Novac and quit the game...

Went back onto the game and installed patch 1.01 (I still want to know what (if anything) it does)

Currently I'm near the end of "Come Fly With Me" and going back out of the rocket centre to look for the rocket parts... Just over by the waste disposal area where there should be a body which has a component on it.

I got to the waypoint and couldn't believe what I saw.

The body was half burried in the ground, you could just make out it's yellow radiation suit and the face mask. Fortunately I was on this instance able to loot the body and the key item.

However, imediately after the body shifted position, further into the ground, making it impossible to loot, or move by the R3 command.

Why yes, I do have a picture.

When you look at that picture, I could only get the option to search the body if I moved the target over the head and the knees.

After I looted te body, I tried to move it using the R3 button command... this is what happened.

When you look at that picture, despite being able to see the head and part of the torso, it cannot be selected.

And yes I did re-load to see if it would fix, and no it did not.

So if you encounter an item half burried, refrain from using the grab command or else it'll be gone forever, however, if the item is already inside out of reach, there is no way to get it out. It might be possible with an explosion, but I highly doubt it since the Havoc engine drags items down, so with no solid matter below the map floor, the body/item will always fall further down.

Again, I won't hammer home how this was also an issue with the last game. People... items... falling through the floor.

What's funny is everytime I have an NCR assassination squad after me, when they begin trying to kill me, things will just start flying out of the sky. I think I was bombarded with four or five fire geckos last time I was attacked. The funny thing is, everytime this happens, they seem to fall to the ground from out of nowhere and then make the dying noise. Like I said, for me, this only happens when I'm being hunted by the NCR. It seems to me that everytime there is something NCR related, something goes funky on the game.

Excellent, not for us, because I had this and I required a confirmation. I thought at first it was meant to be a new-look i.e a new NV input where the body has some interaction with the ground rather than the costant appearnce of deceased bodies but alas I was ill-put. That was my first thought, my second was when I noticed that when I looked at my compass after discovering the location It was pointing to the body. Confused, since I couldn't really interact with it, lo and behold I literally couldn't interact with it until much deliberation the finger was my saviour.

For a FO veteran I can't explain how embarrasing it was to experience this bug, and as you have correctly stated it's not the only time I have experienced this occurence. But I must explicity point out to the developers that this is a concrete example of how to discover this bug.

Good evidence and well explained Mortimer.

i know how you feel. i won't say which it was, but i went looking for a unique variant of a great weapon, and guess what!? half in the wall actually. and whats more? you guessed it i cannot move it or acquire it all! i am just over 10 hours in, and now with this(and many other bugs: screen freezes, not being able to enter v.a.t.s. sometimes for no reason, people floating on the ceiling that sort of thing..) i am VERY discouraged that this is just a taste of what is to come in the game that the developers promised would be lacking of the many bugs and glitches that afflicted F3. this is what i spent nearly $100 on? it's just not right or fair to any of us who spent their hard earned money on a game we were told would easily eclipse the greatness that F3 achieved. Bethesda owes it to us to fix this crap. :brokencomputer:

I actually tried to reproduce that glitch by walking and jumping into a mountain and made it underground. If you're able to get under the ground like that you'll notice the cause to the issue is a thin texture that they added above the original texture. Sorry, but this wont get fixed by a patch it happened when they were making the landscape for the game and leaving small gaps in textures that were missed.

Well a I said that wouldn't be fixed, but if they added a script to reset actors and items after you loaded a save then that may help. That script may already be in the game because I notice dead npc's move for like a second after a reload.

Here's a screenshot of my character glitched underground, notice the textures above my guys head? well it seems when they were developing the game they decided they didn't like how some things looked so they added this thin texture that isn't completely solid. This is why you notice npc's and other stuff sticking out of the ground.

I had the same issues with the "Come Fly With Me" quest. I found the character with the radiation suit stuck in the ground. I was unable to search the body for the necessary quest items. I tried shooting the body out, hacking it out with melee, then eventually was able to blow it our with dynamite. I am not sure if I was able to blow a piece of the body off enough to be able to search it or if it move the body closer to the surface. Hope issues like this are completely fixed.

yes,
i have had this issue as well, along with a few other issues including enemy's getting stuck in rocks walls you name it they have been stuck there through out the wasteland. it's irksome..

Another issue i have had was following a friendly way point with either an enemy at the end who simply doesn't attack me right away unless i attack it, or I'm seen by a red enemy, then the friendly enemy will change to red and attack me.

Also I have found nothing at the end of a friendly marker in the wasteland (thinking some1 was being attacked or needed help) when I got there.

My final issue so far is that my player sometimes will continue to creep when i'm not touching the joystick. and no it's not my controller it has only happened in this game and i have used both of my controllers.

has anyone else come across any of these issues?

BTW FALLOUT FTW!!!! , please dont abandon this game like you did with oblivion GOTY, still stuck on vampirism and refuse to buy the game twice.. SHE WONT TAKE MY BLOODGRASS!!!! :(
