Do items in YOUR House get reset?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 3:52 am

We at Skyrim Cheats, Hints, and Spoilers Forums probably all know now that items in NPC Houses do reset. But do items in OUR Houses get reset?
The thing is I have this idea of putting all my Gold Bars on my dinning table and it would be pretty disheartening to come back from a LOOOOOONG Quest just to see the table was reset and cheap food were there inplace of my Gold Bars pyramid.

The home items resets. It's true. But the items you leave in the chairs, drobes, blah.. tables.. always stays in the same place.

I have ghostblade abandoned in the table. It's there since I leaved there.

Thank you, Heizer.
What about the Dinning Table food? Will they respawn on top of my Gold Pyramid? Or there will be no food respawn because teh table as used?

Y'ur Welcome.

They will respawn relentless of what items are near. They will truncate and "explode" when you load the location (the house, in the case)

Your gold pile will be FOREVER in the table, if you don't mess up with the table original items.

Take for instance the rabbit leg in a plate near the table. It ALWAYS truncates with the other raw rabbit leg and falls to the ground don't matter how many times I take the rabbit leg with me. It reaspawns everytime.

In my house in Whiterun, I place my stolen garnets etc on my kitchen table, for display and the coooolness of it.

Aaanyway, sometimes they lay spread all over the floor, or the table. What happens while im not there? Does Lydia have houseparties? Since I usually go alone, she never comes along with me.

Weirdness :cryvaultboy:

Two bodies can't occupy same place in space.
And garnets are like magnets... They reppel tables and other furnitures aswell.

So, then why is it that when I decorate my house (say place a bowl on a shelf and put apples in them, or a put a basket on the floor and fill it with potatoes etc) it's all over the place the first time I exit and then re-enter? But, after I put everything back into place like I want it, the 2nd time it takes and it stays where it should. Why can't it just work the first time? Why do I have to do everything twice? It's rather annoying when I fill a basket with 20 apples for instance, all that time wasted and then I have to do it again anyway, the next time I enter. I don't get the whole mechanics here.

And yes, the weapons I dropped on the ground stayed there forever. And most of my stuff I arrange will stay forever (the 2nd time around). lol And yes, food re-spawns, but if you remove empty bowls and goblets from a table and put them in a chest or cupboard, that space will remain empty and you can decorate it.

I think what happens is when you enter a cell such as your house the game will spawn all the necessary items that were in there since the last save and when they spawn, the physics can get a bit wonky. Thats why I think on some entries your stuff is okay where you placed it and other times it will be on the floor. I have most of the hand placed objects in my Hjerm house in good spots where they don't fall on the floor everytime I walk in the house (i actually got my husbands vegetable soup to stay on the table in an upright position!), though once in a while the ebony claw I placed on a shelf will be on the floor.

I wish I knew why they did this. I would love to have my collection of skulls on my shelves or daggers laid out nicely across the table, but it's a waste of time since the selves and tables reset. I had a good looking collection of helmets set on my fireplace mantle, each with a skull set inside ... then it reset.

I honestly think this must have been a bug on Bethesda's part as I can not for the life of me think of a good reason to have the PC's house items reset. Are they afraid my housecarl will starve? I just don't get it but unless you use a display case (which most houses don't even have) you can forget displaying collections of things other than weapons and armor.

I never had anything respawn in my house - and I removed all food-items on tables because it annoyed me that that "old" food kept standing around there. -I don't have pies and cheese standing around on tables in RL either, right? :P

It surprises me to hear that it respawns for some. Maybe it depends on the house? I always lived in Riften - if that makes a difference.

I placed various neat things here and there - like my bee-in-a-jar with a honey pot next to it - lol. And true enough, first time I place it, it is on the floor next time I enter. 2nd time though, it stays forever and ever and ever and.... Never had respawns or stuff ending up back on the floor after that.

I like that some stuff respawns. makes sense that the thane gets new food etc. Where it doesn't make sense is the damn iron axe and buckets and shovels n stuff all over the place. I delete those with the console and they never bother again.

All this said, I gave up on decorating manually, the only thing I got to stay is a statue of dibella on a dresser.

And ooops, been dropping loot on dungeon floors, damn my save file must be huge.

It always bugs me that the bowl on the table at the top of Breezehome's "stairs" is not centered perfectly on the table. But if I give it a little nudge to fix it, it end up on the floor the next time the house loads. If I put it back in the center, the same thing happens. If I put it back, but off center in its original position, it stays. :(

Thus I always feel compelled to pick it up and put it in a drawer.
