Its a fracking huge world

According to this article it would take you over an hour to run from one side of Cyrodiil to the other...

http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/16676/article/the-size-of-the-elder-scrolls-online-s-world-calculated/

And then there is a lot more math... parsonally i think their are so many unstable variables that they must be way of, but even then its larger then any other handcreated MMo at release....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------UPDATE--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The math is indeed all wrong...

the whole math is flawed... a character moves about 400 meter/ minute, thats about 8 minutes over 3 km..

assuming the world is 3 x 3 zones square, it would take you about 24 minutes to cross Cyrodiill

with each of the PvE alliances being roughly 3/4 of cyrodiil, means taking a little more then 20 minutes to cross a whole alliance from one side to another...

Meaning that all 3 PvE alliances together are about as big as Kalimdor in WoW, which means that the world will be a little smaller then WoW at release... Nothing to really brag about if you ask me,,.. But then there might be many many many open world dungeons...

the source telling us that the cyrodill zones are roughly 3km to cross, and characters move at 6,6 m/s comes from a developers interview.. the fact that a PvE alliance area is roughly 3/4 of Cyrodiil is common knowledge by now, stated several times.

I think i can see the flaw of the math done in the article... they asume that the 9 zones need to be crossed in a line, where i asume that its 3x3, which in my book comes a lot closer to the reallity

Due to Cyrodil's irregular shape, I doubt the arrangement is 3x3 or 1x9. I don't think either of you are right. I also don't think it matters.

This.

Cyrodiil is a huge RvR PvP sandbox for us to play in, thats all that really matters.

I'm not sure what to think of this, there saying the Witcher 3 takes 45 minutes to ride across the land on horseback, and eso takes 24 minutes to just walk? I thought elder scrolls games where suppose to be the kings of open world... This is sounding even smaller then Skyrim was which is a huge dissapointment. And this is suppose to be all of Tamriel!!!

Cant deny that, cant we?

Its large enough as a PvP world .. Just hoping there is enough to keep everyone busy and entertained...

Its not 24 minutes for the whole game, its 24 minutes for 3 zones in the province of Cyrodiil

That article says characters run at 15mph? Wouldn't that be at sprint which reduces stamina? We can't keep that up for long. I'd guess 6mph, with 15mph sprint 20% or so of the time (to allow stamina to replenish)

Assuming 6mph constant running, and 15mph sprint (within realistic norms, and similar to what Skyrim looks like) with enough stamina to spend 20% of the time running, that's an average of 7.8mph

Cyridiil is supposed to be 16.77 miles long, according to the article

That's 2:09 to cross, though they seem confused at times when measuring things. Most measurements put it at about 4 miles across, though, so about half an hour. Though provinces are supposed to be bigger in ESO, so if it's 4 miles across in Oblivion, it might easily be double in ESO - so an hour - so three hours coast to coast across Tamriel.

Taking WOW as an example, though, zones took what, 3-5 minutes to cross? That would put each zone about the size of a continent in WOW.

Basically it comes down to this: Remember how big Cyrodiil was in Oblivion? Well, Cyrodiil in this game is bigger than that one.

Twenty-four minutes?... makes you wonder about all the heavy-weather the dev's made about not fast-travelling to 'conflicted' areas... hell, one'll just be "...ah, right... sounds serious... am across the continent, but'll be there in ten" (has half a smoke on the way).

None of these numbers are official in anyway. 24 minutes and 69 minutes have never been uttered by ZOS. All we know 100% sure is that Cyrodiil in this game will larger than the Cyrodiil in Oblivion. So just remember how big that one was and this one is bigger than that. That is all we know right now.

Yeah... likesaid, can't see why there'd be a fast-travel system (let alone fast-travel restrictions) if virtually everywhere was a brisk jog away. Suspect that these un-named mathematicians are neglecting topography.

Question for said "mathematicians": "How long is a coastline? (Hint: it ain't the distance between A and B)"

I'm following another MMO as well, which is soo big that you could never possibly explore it all.. It's the size of Earth. Looking forward to that MMO as well, even donating to the project.
