So its just a house making DLC?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:02 pm

So yeah I haven't been following Skyrim in a while, and I was surprised to find out that Hearthfire was already released on the Xbox. I'm even more surprised to find it that its just about building houses, and adoption, and stuff.

I mean, I don't mind, and I'm not upset about it. I was just hoping for more magic stuff.

That's exactly what it is, and the amount of energy/materials/work that goes into making the houses makes it a very meaty DLC. It's huge amounts of fun, 3 different houses/locations, and like I said, detailed work and decorating goes into it.

It's simply an RP mechanic, and it adds a lot of immersion. You can also adopt children and move them into your house, they have interesting dialogue, you develop sort of a "son" or "daughter", it's cool.

Well I guess that sounds pretty fun. I guess I'll pick up the DLC. I don't think I'll adopt though, I mean in all my hours of gameplay I haven't even married anyone. I don't think I can see myself adopting.

ha i wouldnt consider going town to town looking for iron and supplies "meaty", its a tedious task that gets tired after awhile. Also theres 3 different locations but the houses are pretty much the same except for these "wings" which are just small rooms tacked on, especially the towers...those rooms are only big enough for 2.5 people

its nice that it gives us more places to rest but you only get a couple hours of enjoyment before it gets tedious and tiresome...at least its $5, had it been even $7.50 i would have buyers remorse :P

Dawnguard was their game content DLC. Hearthfire is more for people that want immersion in the game, it's not for everyone. I certainly wouldn't have paid $20 for hearthfire but $5 is ok.

Don't read too much into the first reply.
It IS fun - until you realize that there's not much diversity in the homes. Sure, you can make some small selections, but you can't do much about the way the houses look. The major reply is to not fully decorate your home (so as to make the interiors more diverse), but I don't see the point in not getting everything you can.

But, basically, all the exteriors look the same (not the land - the land IS varied a bit). If you get the same room for a house (bedroom, for example), it looks the exact same in all houses.

I was hoping for a bit more diversity, but... eh. I'll just be more selective about purchases in the future.

It is also a good way to increase your smithing skill.

Define "magic stuff", because for me, when I click an option to add to my house, and turn around and see it's there, I call that magic.

I've clocked around 30 hours in Skyrim since Hearthfire's release. I'd say that's not for a five dollar DLC.

If you were looking for something on the scale and as awesome as The Shivering Isles DLC, this most certainly is not it. Not too bad for a fiver though.
